Ministry of Industry and Trade: Review and adjust the 2025 electricity supply plan and develop the 2026 electricity supply plan

STO - On the morning of June 24, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Industry and Trade held a national online conference to review and adjust the 2025 electricity supply plan and develop the 2026 electricity supply plan; promote key power source and grid projects. Comrade Nguyen Hong Dien - Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Industry and Trade chaired the conference. Attending the conference at the Soc Trang province bridge were Comrade Le Thanh Thanh - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade; leaders of provincial departments, branches and Soc Trang Electricity Company.

In the first 6 months of 2025, the total electricity output of the entire national system (including rooftop solar power) is estimated at 156.4 billion kWh, 3.04% higher than the same period in 2024, reaching 45% of the 2025 plan (347.5 billion kWh) approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in Decision No. 3300/QD-BCT, dated December 15, 2024, mainly due to the lower national temperature compared to the same period and the whole past year, the load demand did not increase as forecasted at the beginning of the year. In the first 6 months of the year, the largest consumption capacity of the national power system reached 51,672 MW recorded on June 2, 2025, 5.7% higher than the same period in 2024 (in the North alone, the largest consumption capacity increased by 2,632 MW to 26,495 MW).

According to the updated report of the National Electricity System and Market Operation Company (NSMO), the total electricity production and import output for the whole year of 2025 is estimated to reach 331.4 billion kWh, an increase of 7.39% compared to 2024, estimated to reach 95.4% compared to the 2025 plan. Accordingly, coal-fired thermal power sources still account for a high proportion of the total mobilized output for the whole year of 2025 (accounting for 50.3%), the rest are hydropower (accounting for 27.3%), gas-fired thermal power (accounting for 7.2%) and renewable energy (accounting for 12.7%).

At the conference, delegates informed about the adjustment of the 2025 electricity supply plan, the progress of implementing key power source and grid projects in localities across the country. In Soc Trang, power source projects are currently being developed such as: Long Phu Thermal Power Plant Project, renewable energy source projects... These projects are part of the Power Plan VIII. In addition, regarding the key power grid in the province, there is a connection point belonging to the project to supply electricity from the national grid to Con Dao district ( Ba Ria - Vung Tau province). Currently, the Department of Industry and Trade and other sectors continue to coordinate with investors to speed up the construction progress, expected to be energized in early September 2025.

Concluding the conference, Comrade Nguyen Hong Dien acknowledged and highly appreciated EVN's efforts in supplying electricity to serve socio-economic development and people's needs. Thereby, the Minister of Industry and Trade requested EVN and related units to pay attention to regular maintenance of the power grid, to prevent incidents. Ensure adequate supply of fuel and raw materials for operation and power generation. Have plans and scenarios ready to respond to incidents, especially during the rainy and stormy season, to ensure stable and safe power sources in the last 6 months of 2025 and in 2026... Leaders of provinces and cities after the merger continue to pay attention to directing the removal of difficulties in key power source and grid development projects in the locality, contributing to ensuring safe and continuous power sources and grids to serve socio-economic development and meet people's living needs.
