Riverbank landslide reveals 1.5m long, 200kg bomb

On the morning of October 14, information from the Defense Command of Region 2 - Vu Quang said that the Engineering Department ( Military Command of Ha Tinh province) is directing the Defense Command of Region 2 - Vu Quang to coordinate with the functional forces of Ha Linh commune to develop a plan and come up with solutions to handle and detonate a bomb that was just discovered on the river bank.

Authorities have stretched ropes and set up warning signs around the area where the bomb was found.

According to initial information, earlier on the morning of October 13, some residents of Ha Linh commune were rowing a boat on the Ngan Sau River, when they reached the section passing through village 9, they suddenly discovered a landslide on the riverbank revealing a strange object suspected to be a bomb.

The incident was then quickly reported by the people to local authorities and functional agencies.

Immediately after receiving the report, the authorities inspected the scene, stretched ropes, installed warning signs, and stood guard in the surrounding area to ensure safety; and reported the incident to the Ha Tinh Provincial Military Command to propose further handling options.

Initial inspection showed that this was a bomb left over from the war, about 1.5m long, about 30cm in diameter, weighing about 200kg; the bomb also had the serial number 2518425.
