This is a book series selected and introduced by Dr. Le Nhat Ky. The book series is the first systematic selection, gathering typical works of nearly 20 Vietnamese authors, spanning nearly a century of writing (from the 1940s to the present). Dr. Le Nhat Ky is a long-time researcher of Vietnamese folk literature, fairy tales, fairy tales as well as children's literature.
The book series includes more than 60 modern fairy tales, from great names of Vietnamese literature such as: Khai Hung, Ngoc Giao, To Hoai, Nguyen Huy Tuong, Pham Ho, Thy Hac, Vi Ho, Niem Loc, Ngo Quan Mien, Doan Minh Tuan, Xuan Quynh, Tran Hoai Duong, Nguyen Tri Cong, Tran Duc Tien, Nguyen Huong, Le Thi Kim Son...
"Modern Vietnamese fairy tales" includes new stories composed with the spirit, structure and magic of folk fairy tales, but reflecting the life, soul and human values of modern people.
Starting from the beginning of the 20th century, this genre was pioneered by romantic and realistic writers such as Khai Hung, Ngoc Giao, and Tham Tam. Since 1945, many writers have continued to preserve and renew this genre, typically Pham Ho, Ngo Quan Mien, Nguyen Huy Tuong, Tran Hoai Duong, and recently Nguyen Huong, Tran Duc Tien, and many young writers.
In the flow of Vietnamese children's literature, modern fairy tales play the role of a bridge between tradition and modernity. Modern fairy tales still preserve the spirit of folk fairy tales - with miracles, good characters, and a cause-and-effect ending - while opening up a humane, equal, and creative perspective of people today.
It can be said that these modern Vietnamese fairy tales are close friends of childhood, contributing to the formation of personality, development of language, imagination and ability to appreciate beauty of children. At the same time, this is also a valuable source of materials for education in schools: teaching creative storytelling, sex education, gender equality, compassion and positive attitude towards life.

With the birth of “Modern Vietnamese Fairy Tales”, for the first time, modern Vietnamese fairy tales are systematically and comprehensively collected, from pioneering writers to contemporary voices. The book series is not only a spiritual gift for children, but also a valuable resource for literary researchers, teachers and parents.
Sharing about the book series, Dr. Le Nhat Ky said: “For a long time, modern Vietnamese fairy tales have often been introduced in a scattered manner, in anthologies of children's prose in general or by a specific author. With this anthology 'Modern Vietnamese Fairy Tales', readers for the first time have a systematic approach to the subject, fully covering the developments and achievements of the genre as well as the contributions of each author to the country's children's literature.”
Dr. Le Nhat Ky is currently teaching at Quy Nhon University; and is a member of the Vietnam Folk Arts Association.
He has won many research awards such as the Vietnam Folklore Association Award for his research works: Binh Dinh Thatched Roof House (A prize, 2004), Folklore in the Children's Literature System (Encouragement Prize, 2008), Essays on Fairy Tales (Encouragement Prize, 2016). B Prize of the 6th Dao Tan - Xuan Dieu Award (2016-2020).
Dr. Le Nhat Ky also has many published books such as "Literature for Children" (co-written with Dr. Chau Minh Hung, 2003), "Genre System in Children's Literature" (co-written with Dr. Chau Minh Hung, 2009), "Tran Hoai Duong, the Man and His Works" (2015), "Fairy Tales in Modern Vietnamese Literature" (2016), "From the Footsteps of De Men" (2024)...
