Over the past 28 days (as of April 27, 2025), the world has recorded more than 25,000 new COVID-19 infections, down nearly 57% compared to the previous 28 days. Thailand is the new hotspot with more than 53,000 infections from the beginning of the year to May 10, 2025, with Bangkok alone accounting for nearly a third of the cases. WHO confirmed that the Omicron sub-variant XBB.1.16 spreads rapidly but there is no evidence that it causes more severe disease.
In Vietnam, from the beginning of 2025 to now, Vietnam has recorded 148 cases scattered in 27 provinces/cities, with no deaths. No concentrated outbreaks have been recorded, but the number of cases has tended to increase slightly in the past 3 weeks, about 20 cases per week.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ministry of Health has proactively strengthened surveillance and closely monitored the epidemic situation at border gates, communities and medical facilities; and is ready to treat and care for infected people, especially high-risk groups such as the elderly, pregnant women and people with underlying diseases.
The Ministry of Health recommends that people continue to strictly implement COVID-19 prevention measures:
Wear a mask in public places, public transport, medical facilities.
Wash your hands frequently with soap or hand sanitizer.
Limit unnecessary gatherings.
Increase exercise, improve health, and have proper nutrition.
If you have symptoms of fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, go immediately to the nearest medical facility for examination and monitoring.
People returning from epidemic areas need to proactively monitor their health to protect themselves and the community.
