While the controversy surrounding the brawl between the U22 Thailand and U22 Indonesia teams in the SEA Games 32 final was still fresh, Thai football continued to leave a negative impression on the final day of the 2022-23 FA Cup at Thammasat Stadium on the evening of May 28th.

The incident involved a physical altercation between Buriram United striker Jonathan Bolingi and Bangkok United assistant coach Rodrigo Squinalli. According to Thai media, Bolingi received a red card in the 90+1 minute for grabbing Rungrath Poomchantuek (Bangkok United) by the neck. As they left the field, the Buriram United striker and Squinalli exchanged words, and the assistant coach slapped the Congolese forward in the face.

Seeing his teammate losing his temper, Theerathoon Bumanthan immediately intervened. However, it was too late as Bolingi retaliated with a punch to Squinalli's face. Chaos ensued, and it was difficult for the referees and members of both teams to resolve the personal conflict between the two sides.

Following the match, Buriram United's president, Newin Chidchob, decided not to renew Bolingi's contract (which expired on May 31st) and apologized to Thai football fans for the player's behavior. The 28-year-old striker was a key player for Buriram United, especially after scoring both goals to help his team defeat Bangkok United and win the 2022-23 Thai FA Cup. However, according to President Newin, despite his talent, the player's poor conduct was unacceptable.

The incident in the 2022-23 FA Cup final further tarnished the image of Thai football in the eyes of the international community. Nearly two weeks prior, in the SEA Games 32 final, the Thai U22 team clashed with the Indonesian U22 team. The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) issued a one-year ban from all national team duties to goalkeeper coach Prasadchok Chokmoh, along with two officials, Mayed Madad and Patrawut Wongsripuek. Goalkeeper Sophonwit Rakyath and substitute player Teerapak Pruengna (number 18) received a six-month ban from all activities with the Thai national teams.
