The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has just officially updated the number of clubs that will be directly admitted to the group stage and must compete in the preliminary round of the AFC Champions League Two 2025/26.
Accordingly, the next 10 direct tickets are allocated according to AFC principles (including 1 Vietnamese team), the remaining 5 tickets will be competed by 6 other clubs from national championships including: Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong (China), Singapore, Philippines and Indonesia.
In which, based on the national championship rankings in the East Asian ranking system, teams from Thailand (ranked 4th), Vietnam (ranked 7th), Hong Kong (ranked 8th), Singapore (ranked 9th) are given special privileges to go straight to the group stage.
Meanwhile, two teams from the Philippines (ranked 10th) and Indonesia (ranked 11th) will have to compete for the last ticket to the AFC Champions League Two 2025/26.
In summary, in addition to 1 spot eliminated from AFC Champions League Elite, 15 spots in the Eastern region participating in AFC Champions League Two 2025/26 will be divided among 5 teams from the national leagues of Japan, Korea, China, Australia, Malaysia (1 team each).
Four national tournaments including Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Singapore will have 2 representatives going straight to the group stage.
Among them, the representatives of Thailand, Hong Kong and Singapore have been identified as: Ratchaburi (Thailand), Eastern (Hong Kong), Tampines Rovers (Singapore). The case of Vietnam will be updated in the near future.
For Vietnamese football, the 2024/2025 V.League champion (Nam Dinh or Hanoi Club) and the 2024/2025 National Cup champion will represent Vietnam to participate in AFC Champions League Two.
Vietnamese football has 2 teams that have qualified for the AFC Champions League Two 2024/25, Nam Dinh (V.League champion) and Thanh Hoa (National Cup champion), but Nam Dinh is the only team competing.
The 2025/26 AFC Champions League Two group stage will kick off on September 16 with 32 clubs divided into 8 groups, including 4 East Asian groups and 4 West Asian groups.
