BYD Seagull adds new version with 405 km range

The new BYD Seagull 2025 version is priced at 78,800 yuan (about 273 million VND) in the Chinese market.

BYD has just launched a new version of its Seagull compact electric hatchback called the Free Edition in the Chinese market. The new version is priced at 78,800 yuan (about 273 million VND) in the domestic market.

Along with this launch, BYD also announced that total sales of the Seagull have surpassed 1 million units since its first launch in April 2023.

The Seagull Free Edition still uses BYD's e-Platform 3.0 chassis platform and retains the front-mounted electric motor with a maximum capacity of 55 kW (about 75 horsepower) and maximum torque of 135 Nm.

The car uses a 38.88 kWh lithium-sediment phosphate battery, which can run 405 km after a full charge. At the same time, the car also supports DC fast charging with a charging time from 30% to 80% in about 30 minutes at room temperature.

In terms of design, the Seagull Free Edition electric car has been updated with a new BYD logo on the back, in sync with the front of the car. The car's roof now uses full fabric material to increase durability.

Meanwhile, the interior has a new color scheme of pink and black. The front seats are equipped with USB Type-A and Type-C charging ports, of which the Type-C port has a capacity of up to 60 W. All versions have an automatic power on/off feature.

In addition, the Seagull Free Edition also has a 12.8-inch floating central touch screen, running BYD's DiLink 100 operating system, supporting voice control and cloud connectivity.

All versions have 6 airbags and upgraded lighting, horn and air conditioning systems. The high-end version also has a 3-camera set of God's Eye C driver assistance package.

The eagull is a low-cost model in BYD's Ocean product line. The vehicle has dimensions of length x width x height of 3,780 x 1,715 x 1,540 mm and a wheelbase of 2,500 mm. This model is aimed at urban users and young people who want to own a compact electric car.

In the Chinese market, the BYD Seagull starts at 63,800 yuan (about 223 million VND) for the standard version with a range of 305 km. Users can receive additional incentives to trade in their old cars from the government and BYD, totaling up to 20,000 yuan (about 70 million VND).

On June 30, 2025, the 1 millionth Seagull was produced at BYD's Xi'an factory. From January to May 2025, the total global sales of the vehicle reached 233,126 units, an increase of 50% over the same period last year. Of which, the Chinese market alone accounted for 144,204 units, ranking third after Geely and Wuling.

In May 2025 alone, BYD recorded 60,131 Seagulls sold globally, of which 29,026 were exported. In June 2025, the Seagull also began selling in the European market under the name Dolphin Surf, with a starting price of 22,990 Euros (about 26,900 USD) in 15 countries. The export version has a longer body and some minor adjustments to the powertrain.
