On April 3, information from the leader of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nam Can district ( Ca Mau province) said that recently, the situation of sea crabs raised in shrimp farms of people dying on a large scale has recurred in the area.

According to the leader of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nam Can district, most communes in the district have experienced the death of farmed sea crabs, with losses ranging from 30-100%. The cause was determined to be infection with crustacean parasites.

Sea crab is one of the famous specialties of Ca Mau province, of which, sea crab in Nam Can district is considered the most delicious. The situation of crabs raised in shrimp ponds dying has reduced production, increasing crab prices. Currently, crab with roe (Nam Can) costs over 800,000 VND/kg, crab with y is over 500,000 VND/kg.

Previously, at the peak of the dry season in 2022, Ca Mau province also experienced widespread deaths of farmed sea crabs. According to the analysis results of the Southern Hau River Fisheries Research Institute, the crabs were sick and died due to adult crustacean parasites and larvae of parasites living in the crab's body cavity penetrating the crab's muscle tissue, liver, and heart.
