CEO Mark Zuckerberg's lean Meta policy continues to affect senior positions like Vice President.
Meta's senior management team is 'impatient' with Mark Zuckerberg's streamlining policy. According to Insider's sources, Facebook's parent company is cutting the number of Vice Presidents even lower.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg has declared a “year of efficiency,” a policy that has led to the departure of more than 20,000 employees and has become part of the way the company operates. Even leaders are not immune to the strict evaluation standards and efforts to restructure departments.

Insider also revealed that the number of Meta Vice Presidents in 2023 is about 300 individuals. And in previous years, this number was about 180.
Although some left last year in a second wave of layoffs, Zuckerberg isn't stopping there and wants to bring the total number of Meta VPs down to about 250. Meta currently has five VP levels. The overall goal is to reduce the number of mid- and senior-level employees and increase the number of junior ones.
In 2023, Meta CEO declared that he did not want the company to have “managers managing managers” and they were trying to reduce some structures.
Vice Presidents are being thinned out through “soft” mid-year performance reviews and formal performance reviews once a year, usually in the first quarter. Vice Presidents are subject to “stack ranking,” a common process in the tech industry where peers are compared to see who is performing better. Their work and actions are closely monitored.
Additionally, Meta forces managers to classify 10% to 12.5% of their team as underperforming. These people are placed on a performance improvement plan (PIP). Typically, such reviews result in dismissal or demotion.
