4 things related to sleep that can protect you from stroke

A new study, recently published in the medical journal JAMA Network , has found that by doing the following four things for your sleep, you can reduce your risk of heart disease and stroke.

Everyone knows that poor sleep increases the risk of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, depression, and anxiety. Meanwhile, research highlights the importance of quality sleep for health.

Những người có kiểu ngủ tối ưu trong suốt 5 năm có nguy cơ đột quỵ thấp hơn 34% so với những người không có kiểu ngủ không tối ưu

People who maintained optimal sleep patterns over a five-year period had a 34% lower risk of stroke compared to those who did not have optimal sleep patterns.

Now, scientists from Tongji Medical School, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, and Dongfeng General Hospital (China) want to examine the impact of sleep patterns on the risk of cardiovascular disease over time, including coronary heart disease and stroke.

The study included more than 15,000 middle-aged retirees who had no cardiovascular disease or cancer at the start of the study. Participants completed questionnaires and underwent physical examinations at two points five years apart.

They used questionnaires to determine the sleep quality of participants. In these questionnaires, "optimal" sleep patterns were defined as those with the following four factors: bedtime between 10 PM and midnight; 7-8 hours of sleep per night; good or fair sleep quality; and naps of 60 minutes or less.

The results revealed that people who maintained optimal sleep patterns over a five-year period (meaning they kept their optimal sleep patterns consistent over the long term) had a 16% lower risk of coronary heart disease and a 34% lower risk of stroke compared to those who did not maintain optimal sleep patterns over the same five-year period. Why should people with stomach ulcers avoid eating tomatoes?

Although tomatoes are very healthy and add flavor to dishes, not everyone should eat them. There are some cases where it's best to avoid tomatoes, especially for people with stomach ulcers.

A medium-sized fresh tomato contains approximately 12 mg of calcium, 13.5 mg of magnesium, 29.5 mg of phosphorus, and 290 mg of potassium. While many vegetables lose vitamins and minerals when cooked, tomatoes retain almost all of their nutritional content.

Although tomatoes are nutritious, people with stomach ulcers should avoid eating them.

People with stomach ulcers should ideally avoid eating tomatoes. Stomach ulcers occur when sores form on the lining of the stomach.

Stomach ulcers can cause unpleasant symptoms such as epigastric pain, heartburn, indigestion, and nausea. In such cases, tomatoes can worsen these symptoms.

The reason is that the accumulation of acid in the stomach increases the risk of stomach ulcers. Tomatoes, being a food with a high acid content, exacerbate this accumulation.

Besides tomatoes, people with stomach ulcers should also avoid highly acidic fruits like lemons, grapefruits, oranges, and tangerines. Further details of this article will be available on the health page on May 11th.

4 little-known foods that are excellent for lowering cholesterol.

High blood cholesterol levels are a common health concern for many people, as high cholesterol increases the risk of cardiovascular disease. In addition to exercise, eating the following foods can help lower cholesterol.

Diet has a significant impact on blood cholesterol levels. Eating the right foods plays a crucial role in lowering "bad" LDL cholesterol and raising "good" HDL cholesterol, thereby promoting overall health and reducing the risk of heart disease.

Blueberries contain anthocyanin antioxidants that help prevent cholesterol from building up in the artery walls.

Below are some foods that are very effective at lowering cholesterol, but few people know about this benefit.

Mushrooms . Mushrooms are not only delicious but also very nutritious. A study published in the American Journal of Medicine found that the compounds beta-glucans and chitin have the effect of reducing "bad" LDL cholesterol while increasing "good" HDL cholesterol.

Bamboo shoots. Including bamboo shoots in your diet is an effective way to control blood cholesterol levels. This is because bamboo shoots are not only low in calories but also rich in fiber, a crucial component for cardiovascular health.

When bamboo shoots enter the intestines, the fiber binds to cholesterol, which is then eliminated by the digestive system. This means the intestines absorb less cholesterol, thus helping to lower overall cholesterol levels. Start your day with health news to read more about this article!
