From October 11-20, the 24th World Week of Italian Language was held in Hanoi with the theme “L'italiano e il libro: il mondo fra le righe” (Italian: Discover the world through the pages of books).
The book series Five Continents Bookcase - Italian Culture includes 4 books. |
Within the framework of Language Week, the book series Five Continents Bookcase - Italian Culture (Italy) jointly produced by TIMES and the Department of Italian ( Hanoi University) will be introduced to readers.
If you don't know much about the "boot-shaped country", this book is a useful guide for you and those who have "fallen in love" with Italy.
The book series currently includes 4 books: Italian Cultural Identity , Italian Body Language , A Brief History of Italian Fashion , The Bitter Taste of Italian Cuisine ; reflecting the different characteristics of this beautiful country, rich in cultural identity.
In modern Vietnamese society, people may be surprised to realize that Italy has long been present in many aspects of life so naturally that they are not even aware of it. We have lived in the intersection of Italian language, cuisine and culture for many years, even before Vietnam and Italy officially established a Strategic Partnership in 2013.
The image of beautiful Italy is always a place that many Vietnamese people love and want to visit. |
To further affirm this relationship, the Italian Culture book series of the Five Continents Bookcase was created. This is an initiative that reflects the different characteristics of beautiful, traditional Italy.
The Five Continents Bookcase - Italian Culture is also accompanied by the Embassy of Italy in Vietnam. Mr. Marco della Seta - Ambassador of the Republic of Italy in Vietnam shared: “This wonderful initiative is implemented by TIMES in collaboration with the Department of Italian Language, Hanoi University to meet the increasing demand for learning about Italy in Vietnam and to promote the dissemination of Italian culture and language to readers of the S-shaped country. [...] Through the translated publications in the Bookcase, readers have more unique experiences about Italian culture”.
The Book of Italian Cultural Identity. |
Accordingly, Giuseppe Giliberti's book Italian Cultural Identity gives readers a subtle look at the cultural identity of the boot-shaped country. One of the special features of the book is the skillful use of language, expressing hidden cultural meanings, helping us better understand the soul of the Italian people. Not only stopping at describing the characteristics of Italian culture, the author also raises profound questions about national identity, about the changes of Italian society in the context of globalization.
The Book of Italian Body Language. |
Meanwhile, Claudio Nobili's Italian Body Language helps readers better understand the meaning of gestures in Italian communication: it not only supports language but also enriches and clarifies the meaning of speech.
Claudio Nobili shows the richness and significance of Italian sign language through a theoretical and practical analysis of gesture lexicography: it has both common points with the universal sign language of humanity and its own unique features that are characteristic of the Italian people. Because sign language is a characteristic of Italian communication culture.
The Book of Bitterness in Italian Cuisine. |
One of the important factors that create the soft power of Italy is cuisine. Massimo Montanari's book Bitterness in Italian Cuisine discusses the special role of this flavor in Italian cuisine. Bitterness is a characteristic, not exclusive but extremely unique in Italian culture. Starting the day with the bitter taste of coffee and ending the day with the bitter taste of pepper wine, "bitter" is the most welcomed flavor in the culinary culture of this country.
By delving into literary sources and treatises on botany, agriculture, and cuisine, the great food historian Massimo Montanari has given us a fascinating explanation of the Italian passion for “bitterness.”
The book A Brief History of Italian Fashion. |
Finally, with A Brief History of Italian Fashion by Maria Giuseppina Muzzarelli, Vietnamese readers will have the opportunity to explore the development of the Italian fashion industry - a unique form of cultural expression, a fusion of art and craft, which has become an inseparable part of Italy's image around the world.
Initiated in January 2024 with the orientation of establishing a Five Continents Bookcase , on April 23, TIMES and the Italian Department of Hanoi University (HANU) signed a cooperation agreement to publish a number of Italian books.
The translations of these works were done by lecturers and students of the Italian Language Department. Ms. Pham Bich Ngoc - Head of the Italian Language Department, Hanoi University shared: "With these books, the Italian Culture series will play a pioneering role, marking the first milestone for the TIMES Five Continents Bookcase ".
Representatives of Times Science and Education Publishing Joint Stock Company (TIMES) and Hanoi University (HANU) signed a cooperation agreement to publish the book series. |
According to Mr. Vu Trong Dai - Director of TIMES, the 4 works in the Italian Culture series are all books that represent the culture, identity and imprint of the country and people of Italy, especially history and painting. Mr. Dai also said that during the Italian Language Week, TIMES and Hanoi University will coordinate with the Italian Embassy in Vietnam to organize activities to promote the Italian Culture series and to introduce the country and people here.
