According to MacRumors , Apple will make at least 3 camera upgrades on the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. The first is the telephoto lens upgrade. Compared to the iPhone 16 Pro, which only has 5x optical zoom thanks to the Tetraprism lens system, the iPhone 17 Pro version can achieve optical magnification of up to 8x.

AppleInsider believes this is thanks to a new moving lens that allows smartphones to continuously optically zoom across different focal lengths.

Next, another hardware-related camera upgrade is the Camera Control button, as the source revealed that there will be an additional button on the top edge. This button will apparently be used to quickly access the camera and other related settings, acting as a secondary Camera Control button.

Finally, Apple will make a major software upgrade to the camera on the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max when, according to sources, Apple is about to launch a new professional Camera app, including processing for both photos and videos .

This app will compete directly with other popular rival camera apps including Halide, Kino, and Filmic Pro.

This information further reinforces Apple's ambition to improve the recording quality on the iPhone 17 Pro, making it the main video recording device in the vlogger and content creator community.

Previously, in Bloomberg 's Power On newsletter in February, analyst Mark Gurman said Apple planned to focus heavily on improving video recording capabilities for the new iPhone 17 Pro models.
