After the incident of black wastewater from the Asteria tourist area flowing onto the beach, many businesses said that the State must urgently invest in a system to collect and treat domestic wastewater for the Mui Ne tourist area.
Discharging waste into the sea, damaging the image of green tourism
Sharing with Tuoi Tre Online , Mr. Tran Van Binh - Vice President of Lam Dong Province Tourism Association - said that the biggest problem now is that Mui Ne National Tourist Area has not invested in a system to collect and treat domestic wastewater for decades.
According to Mr. Binh, currently, businesses treat their own domestic wastewater with their own on-site systems, then discharge it into the sea. That does not take into account the unclear location of local residents’ domestic wastewater…
"The discharge of treated water into the sea causes tourists to feel bad about the image of environmentally friendly tourism. That's not counting incidents that affect environmental hygiene, such as the recent failure of the wastewater treatment system that caused a large amount of black wastewater from a resort to flow onto Mui Ne beach," Mr. Binh worried.
Similarly, a representative of a restaurant business in Mui Ne said that there was a lot of domestic wastewater left after on-site treatment, and it was impossible to irrigate it all within the facility.
"During the low tourist season, the wastewater treatment system at the facilities can handle the situation promptly, but during the high season, it is always overloaded," said a food and beverage business in Mui Ne.
That is why Mr. Binh believes that the State must invest in a wastewater collection and treatment system to fundamentally solve the problem in Mui Ne.
According to him, the State's wastewater collection and treatment system will operate more professionally and transparently than the treatment system at each facility.
If there is a treatment system, wastewater discharge into the sea is limited.
A leader of Mui Ne Ward People's Committee admitted that currently there is no wastewater collection and treatment system in the area.
According to this person, the locality has a policy to invest in a centralized wastewater treatment plant project for the Mui Ne national tourist area in two areas: Ham Tien 4 quarter and quarter 12, Mui Ne ward.
The People's Committee of Phan Thiet City (old) announced land recovery and the Land Fund Development Center of Phan Thiet City (old) also conducted an inventory and examined the legality of 16/20 files.
There are currently 4 files. Mui Ne Ward People's Committee will coordinate with Phan Thiet Land Fund Development Center to conduct the inventory and review the legality.
After completing the site clearance compensation, the Phan Thiet Civil and Industrial Construction Investment Management Board (representing the investor) will carry out the construction.
"If the project of centralized wastewater treatment plant in Mui Ne national tourist area is put into use, it will greatly solve the environmental problem in the ward. Especially the situation of direct discharge of waste into the environment by households and businesses", informed the leader of Mui Ne ward.
In the immediate future, to rectify the situation of some businesses illegally discharging wastewater into the sea, Mui Ne ward has established an inspection team to inspect compliance with environmental laws at businesses.
In addition, Mui Ne ward has registered a public investment plan for the period 2026 - 2030 to the Department of Finance of Lam Dong province. In which, Mui Ne ward outlined a plan for urban beautification, upgrading alleys and drainage systems.
Regarding some plastic pipes installed along the coast, Mui Ne ward said that most of them are discharge pipes after passing through the wastewater treatment system of enterprises that have been licensed by the authorities.
