Drowning warning at spontaneous tourist attractions

When summer comes, some people, especially young people, often choose waterfalls, lagoons, and lakes with unique and dangerous natural landscapes that have not been managed or invested in for tourism exploitation. However, this form of outdoor tourism has many potential risks of injuries and drowning.

On the afternoon of July 28, at Vinh Ninh waterfall, Dao Tru commune, Tam Dao district, a tragic drowning incident occurred, killing an 11th grade student from Dong Anh district, Hanoi . This is a location deep in the forest, far from residential areas, but recently many tourist groups from neighboring localities have come here and for many years, this location has continuously had drowning and falling accidents that have resulted in victims dying or being seriously injured.

Realizing the potential risks from spontaneous tourist spots like this, the Dao Tru commune authorities have coordinated with Tam Dao National Park to put up warning signs, dig trenches, and stretch ropes to warn and prevent tourists from other localities from entering the Vinh Ninh waterfall area. However, many people still disregard the danger and even break the barbed wire to get inside, leading to serious accidents.

Not only is there a potential for injury and drowning accidents, when tourists come to these places for picnics, they often bring food and drinks and then litter right in the stream area. When it rains heavily, the water will push all kinds of waste down the stream and flow downstream, polluting the environment and affecting the domestic water source of the villagers.

Most of the rivers, streams, lakes, dams and waterfalls in Vinh Phuc have beautiful natural scenery, but they are potentially dangerous due to rugged terrain, strong water flows, some spots are quite deep, have many caves, and are located far from residential areas. If an incident occurs, it is very difficult to call for rescue or support.

Moreover, when people go out, they do not equip themselves with protective equipment such as life jackets, many people also drink alcohol and beer while bathing, which increases the danger and in fact, there have been many accidents at spontaneous tourist spots, even endangering lives. Therefore, to limit accidents, injuries and drowning, it is necessary to have measures to prevent spontaneous tourism.
