Flash flood and landslide warning in the northern mountainous region, Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri

In the coming hours, Quang Ninh, Lang Son, Tuyen Quang, Son La, Lao Cai, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Quang Tri... will continue to have heavy rain, with a high risk of flash floods and landslides.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the past 24 hours (from 9:00 a.m. on August 25 to 9:00 a.m. on August 26), the provinces of Son La, Lao Cai, Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, Bac Ninh , Lang Son, Quang Ninh and from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri had moderate rain, heavy rain to very heavy rain such as: Muong Do1 232.4 mm (Son La); Cao Pha 3 295.8 mm (Lao Cai); Van Mai 483 mm (Phu Tho); My Yen 93.6 mm (Thai Nguyen); Dong Loi 92 mm (Tuyen Quang); Tan Son 157.4 mm (Bac Ninh); Chi Lang 160.4 mm (Lang Son); Ky Thuong 303.2 mm (Quang Ninh); Van Xuan1 555 mm (Thanh Hoa); Hua Na Hydropower Plant 467.2 mm (Nghe An); Ky Phong 439.4 mm (Ha Tinh); Hoa Son 254.2 mm (Quang Tri)... Soil moisture models show that some areas in the above provinces are nearly saturated (over 85%) or have reached saturation.

In the next 3 - 6 hours, the above provinces will continue to have rain with common accumulated rainfall as follows: Quang Ninh, Lang Son , Bac Ninh, Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang from 20 - 40 mm, some places over 70 mm; Phu Tho, Son La, Lao Cai, Thanh Hoa from 30 - 70 mm, some places over 120 mm; Nghe An to northern Quang Tri from 10 - 30 mm, some places over 50 mm.

In the next 6 hours, there is a risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, and landslides on steep slopes in many communes/wards.

Warning level of natural disaster risk due to flash floods, landslides, land subsidence due to heavy rain or water flow: level 1; Phu Tho, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh level 2.

Flash floods and landslides can have very negative impacts on the environment, threaten people's lives; cause local traffic congestion, affect the movement of vehicles; destroy civil and economic works, causing damage to production and socio-economic activities.

The meteorological agency recommends that local authorities pay attention to reviewing bottlenecks and vulnerable locations in the area to take preventive and response measures.
