Warning of flash floods and landslides in Gia Lai and Dak Lak provinces

It is forecasted that this morning and afternoon (November 24), the areas of Gia Lai and Dak Lak provinces will continue to have moderate to heavy rain due to the influence of increased cold air combined with disturbances in the upper easterly wind zone, warning of the risk of flash floods and landslides in some communes and wards in the above localities.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, in the past 24 hours (from 5:00 a.m. on November 23 to 5:00 a.m. on November 24), Dak Lak province has had moderate to heavy rain such as Cu San 86mm, Son Dinh 62.2mm;...

In the past 6 hours (from 11pm on November 23 to 5am on November 24), Gia Lai province has had moderate to heavy rain such as Long My Lake 73.8mm, Nhon Tho 73.6mm 52.6mm; ...

Soil moisture models show that some areas in the above provinces are close to saturation (over 85%) or have reached saturation.

It is forecasted that in the next 3-6 hours, the above provinces will continue to have rain with common accumulated rainfall as follows: Gia Lai 15-30mm, some places over 70mm; Dak Lak 10-20mm, some places over 50mm.

The meteorological agency said that in the next 6 hours, there is a risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on steep slopes in the above provinces, especially in the following communes and wards:

Gia Lai: Canh Vinh, Ngo May, An Nhon Nam ward, Quy Nhon Tay ward; An Nhon Tay, Canh Lien, De Gi, Hoi Son, Van Canh; An Hoa, An Luong, An Tuong, An Vinh, Binh An, Binh Phu, Cat Tien, Dak Song, Hoa Hoi, Hoai An, Quy Nhon ward, Quy Nhon Bac ward, Quy Nhon Dong ward, Quy Nhon Nam ward, Phu Cat, Phu My, Phu My Dong, Phu My Nam, Phu My Tay, Tuy Phuoc, Tuy Phuoc Bac, Tuy Phuoc Dong, Tuy Phuoc Tay, Xuan An.

Dak Lak: Dong Xuan, Ea Ly, Ea Rieng, Krong A, Song Cau ward, Xuan Dai ward, Phu Mo, Tay Son, Tuy An Tay, Van Hoa, Xuan Canh, Xuan Lanh, Xuan Loc, Xuan Phuoc, Xuan Tho.

Flash floods and landslides can have a very negative impact on the environment, threaten people's lives; cause local traffic congestion, affect the movement of vehicles; destroy civil and economic works, causing damage to production and socio-economic activities. The meteorological agency recommends that local authorities pay attention to reviewing bottlenecks and vulnerable locations in the area to take timely prevention and response measures.

Ships operating at sea should be wary of strong winds of level 6-7, high waves, and rough seas.

In addition, currently, the northern East Sea area has strong northeast winds of level 6, sometimes level 7, gusting to level 8-9.

It is forecasted that today and tonight (November 24), the central and southern East Sea (including Truong Sa special zone), the sea area from southern Quang Tri to Ca Mau, Ca Mau to An Giang and the southern Gulf of Thailand will have scattered showers and thunderstorms. During the thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes and strong gusts of wind of level 6-7.

On the day and night of November 25, the northern East Sea area (including Hoang Sa special zone) will have strong northeast winds of level 7, gusting to level 9-10, waves 4-6m high, and rough seas.

The Gulf of Tonkin has strong northeast winds of level 6, gusting to level 7-8, waves 2-4m high, rough seas. The sea area from southern Quang Tri to Ca Mau, the central East Sea area, the sea area west of the southern East Sea area (including the west of Truong Sa special zone) has strong northeast winds of level 6, sometimes level 7, gusting to level 8-9, waves 3-6m high, rough seas.

All vessels operating in the above areas are at high risk of being affected by strong winds and large waves.
