Beware of online invitations to increase your credit card limit

VietNamNetVietNamNet30/11/2023

On the afternoon of November 30, a leader of the Son La Provincial Police said that recently many banks have continuously issued warnings about increasingly sophisticated fraud methods aimed at appropriating people's assets. Notably, new forms of fraud related to credit cards target people's increased consumption and shopping needs at the end of the year.

Specifically, the subjects often post advertisements on social networks. When customers want to contact them, the subjects will send promotional information related to card activities with links or QR Codes leading to fake bank websites.

At that time, the scammers urged customers to enter personal information such as photos of both sides of their ID card, citizen ID card, both sides of their credit card, CVV security code on the back of the card... into the fake website above, thereby stealing money from the credit card.

Another scam is forging a notice signed by a bank executive informing them that the customer has had their credit card limit increased but has a history of late payments or bad debt that affects their credit score.

From there, the scammer asks the customer to transfer a "credit deposit" to a designated account to help clear their bad debt history and increase their credit score. If the customer complies, the scammer will cut off contact and disappear with the money the customer has transferred.

Banks continue to advise people to be extremely vigilant and absolutely not to provide personal information, card numbers, CVV security numbers, OTP one-time authentication codes... to anyone, including those claiming to be bank employees.

Absolutely do not scan QR Codes or access strange links and do not take pictures of your face, ID card, or citizen identification on unofficial links.
