Cybercriminals are coming up with many scam scenarios related to VNeID (Photo: Trung Nam).

From July 1, 34 new provinces and cities came into operation; the two-level local government model officially operated; a series of new laws and decrees officially took effect.

Therefore, people across the country will be updated with their new hometown via the VNeID application. Taking advantage of this, cybercriminals have come up with new forms of fraud to appropriate property.

According to the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention (A05- Ministry of Public Security ), taking advantage of the arrangement of new administrative units across the country, cybercriminals have impersonated functional forces of communes/wards... to defraud people.

Specifically, the subjects asked people to access the link or install the fake VNeID application containing malicious code.

They then lure people to get their bank account OTP codes or biometric data to commit property appropriation.

Therefore, Department A05 recommends that people be vigilant, do not follow requests over the phone, and only update information directly at the police station of the commune/ward where they live.

If you detect signs of fraud, you should report it to the nearest police station for guidance.

Previously, many social media users shared updated information about their new residence and hometown on the VNeID application, creating conditions for scammers to steal information.

Cybersecurity experts warn that personal information on VNeID is very sensitive, and revealing this information will create conditions for scammers to collect data; from there, they can create scam scenarios suitable for each user.

Therefore, users should absolutely not share photos of their new hometown on the VNeID application to ensure personal safety and that of their family members.
