According to the State Bank, by the end of July, people's deposits in the banking system reached over 7,748 trillion VND, an increase of nearly 9.7% compared to the beginning of the year.
Deposits from the residential sector still recorded the strongest increase in 5 years, compared to the growth rate of the same period in previous years. Meanwhile, the average savings interest rate has remained low at under 6% throughout the past time. Other investment channels such as stocks, gold, and real estate have also become more active.
On the economic organization side, this group's deposits reached 7,976 trillion VND, 127,500 billion VND lower than the end of last month, equivalent to a decrease of 1.6%.
Since the beginning of the year, institutional deposits have seen negative growth for five consecutive months, remaining almost unchanged since May. Compared to the beginning of the year, the amount of deposits from these entities has increased by more than 4%, while at the same time last year it recorded a decrease of more than 1%.
System liquidity remains abundant and supports stable interest rates at low levels.
Lending interest rates have been on a downward trend recently. Demand for credit capital for production, business and consumption is expected to increase, while capital mobilization across the system may be affected and compete with other investment channels.
Banks are also under pressure to mobilize capital as credit growth is "running" faster than the same period last year. In the first 7 months of the year, capital mobilization of the banking system increased by nearly 7.5% while outstanding loans increased by over 10%.
As of September 29, outstanding credit for the entire system reached VND 17.71 trillion, up 13.4% compared to the end of 2024. This is the highest credit growth rate since 2020.
