A 1-year-old patient was found to have a congenital extra finger on his left hand right from birth. Although it did not cause pain, it made the patient have difficulty in daily activities and somewhat lacked confidence when interacting with friends. The family took the child to the Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital for examination.
After a thorough examination and evaluation, the doctors performed a minor surgery to remove the child’s extra finger. The team administered general anesthesia combined with local anesthesia to ensure maximum pain relief and safety for the child.
The minor surgery is performed quickly, gently, safely, ensuring maximum function and aesthetics. After the intervention, the child recovers well, returning to a happy state and normal movement.

Doctors from the Department of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Vietnam-Sweden Uong Bi Hospital said that extra fingers are a congenital defect in children, which greatly affects aesthetics and can affect motor function.
In this case, surgery should be performed early to help the child develop natural movements, giving the hands more balance and aesthetics.
If your child has extra fingers or toes, parents should take them to the doctor for timely intervention. Do not hesitate because if the finger deformity is left for a long time, it will be more difficult to treat and complications may appear.
