A total of 71 goals were scored in the third matchday of this midweek, setting a new record for the number of goals scored in a single matchweek in the qualifying round (formerly group stage) in Champions League history.
This record was created thanks to a series of "goal showers" in many matches. Specifically, 6/18 matches ended with 5 goals or more.
In which, PSG's 7-2 crushing victory over Bayer Leverkusen was the match that contributed the most goals.
Other big-scoring games included PSV Eindhoven crushing Napoli 6-2, Barca thrashing Olympiacos 6-1, Chelsea beating Ajax 5-1 and Liverpool beating Eintracht Frankfurt 5-1.
Despite the record total, the third round also saw three matches end goalless.
This record of 71 goals has surpassed the old milestone set last season, when the 5th matchday of the 2024-2025 Champions League recorded a total of 67 goals.
Matches with the highest number of goals in Champions League history:
Matchday 3 of the 2025-2026 season (71 goals, 18 matches)
Match 1 of the 2025-2026 season (67 goals, 18 matches)
Matchday 5 of the 2024-2025 season (67 goals, 18 matches)
Matchday 8 2024-2025 season (64 goals, 18 matches)
Matchday 1 2000-2001 season (63 goals, 16 matches)
