According to Reuters, Austria imposed border controls with the Czech Republic in October and expects them to remain in place until December 6.
Since November, the country has extended border controls with Slovenia and Hungary until May 2024 due to pressure on the refugee reception system as well as threats from arms smuggling, criminal networks and human trafficking.
In August, Denmark also began tightening immigration controls, including those from Schengen countries. Denmark also extended the deadline for implementing land and sea border controls with Germany until May 2024.
In September, the German government announced increased land border controls with Poland, the Czech Republic, and Switzerland until December 4th to cope with the surge in immigration.
Germany has also extended its tightened border controls with Austria until May 2024 due to pressure on its immigration system and security threats related to terrorism in the Middle East and the conflict in Ukraine.
Italy has resumed police checks at its northeastern land border with Slovenia since October 21st. These controls will remain in place until at least December 9th, and possibly into next year.
Norway, a Schengen Area country but not a member of the EU, reinstated border controls at ports with ferry connections to the Schengen area from November 12 to May 5, 2024.
Starting in November, France began controlling its borders with Schengen member states. This measure will remain in effect until April of next year.
Slovakia announced it will maintain border controls with Hungary until December 23rd to limit the number of illegal immigrants.
Finland temporarily closed seven out of eight border crossings with Russia on November 24th after more than 700 migrants arrived in the country within two weeks.
