BHG - Summer - Autumn crop is a crop with a large rice growing area and a variety of crops. However, this is also a crop with complicated developments in unusual rain, storms, tornadoes, and high potential risks of plant pests. Therefore, in order to successfully implement the production plan, the Department of Agriculture has requested localities to implement the planting schedule according to the right time frame, choose a reasonable and effective variety structure, focus on care, and improve rice productivity and output.
These days, in the fields of Bang Lang commune (Quang Binh), the atmosphere of summer-autumn crop production is bustling from early morning. Taking advantage of the cool weather, despite scattered rains, people have stuck close to the fields, mobilizing human resources, plowing the land, and regulating water sources to plant rice. Ms. Hoang Thi Tuy, Thuong village said: “This year, due to erratic rain and sunshine, farmers have had to race against the production season. Up to this point, my family has finished planting early rice. According to local guidelines, households mainly prioritize key rice varieties that are resistant to pests and diseases such as Nhi Uu 838, HKT 99, Viet Lai 20, Thien Uu 8. Like previous years, people expect to have another good crop and bumper harvest”.

According to the plan, Quang Binh district will plant over 3,700 hectares of summer-autumn rice. With innovative thinking, people have proactively applied scientific and technical advances to intensive farming, maintaining tray-seedling production groups to supply large-scale production areas in Vi Thuong, Xuan Giang, Bang Lang, and Tien Yen communes. In addition, Vi Thuong commune continues to implement the project of linking production and consumption of Lau Mu sticky rice with an area of 7 hectares. In lowland communes, planting has basically been completed, while in some highland communes of Tien Nguyen, Xuan Minh, and Tan Nam, people are also speeding up the progress of land preparation and planting the remaining areas. The district's goal is to ensure the correct seed structure, reach the finish line on time, promptly convert fields that do not have the initiative in irrigation water sources to growing other crops, and not waste land.
As one of the localities with the largest rice growing area in the province, Vi Xuyen district has a summer-autumn rice growing area of over 4,700 hectares. Following the motto of harvesting, preparing the land and planting, communes and towns have urged people to urgently clear the fields, handle straw, and bring mechanization to the fields. The supply of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, and agricultural materials ensures prestige and quality. As planned, the district strives to complete the planting of the entire area before July 20, with the planting progress reaching over 70%. The district has quickly implemented measures to overcome damage on some newly planted rice areas due to the impact of recent natural disasters and floods.

Viet Lam commune is a key rice production area of Vi Xuyen district, with a rice planting area of over 400 hectares in the Summer - Autumn crop. During the flood in early July, the whole commune had about 20 hectares of rice planted in Duoi village, Lung Sinh village and Viet Thanh village that were flooded and buried in soil and sand. After the water receded, the recovered rice areas had to be pruned and replanted to ensure density and not affect future productivity. For 3 hectares of rice fields that were buried in soil and sand, they were completely lost and could not be replanted this crop. Given the continuous rainy weather, the commune paid special attention to the inspection, repair and maintenance of canals and ditches in the fields and prevention of flooding.
In the Summer-Autumn crop of 2024, the whole province will have a rice cultivation area of 28,000 hectares. This is the main crop of the year, of great significance in ensuring food security in the area. With the participation of the entire agricultural sector, the drastic direction of districts and cities and the enthusiastic working spirit of farmers, it is certain that this year's crop will overcome all difficulties and obstacles, contributing to achieving the rice output target of 163,050 tons.
