The past few winter days have been considered favorable for crops. Temperatures haven't dropped low for extended periods, there hasn't been frost, and there have been intermittent days of light rain and mild sunshine, which has helped limit pests and diseases and stimulated plant growth and development. Farmers in Cong Hoa ward are delighted because their kohlrabi, cabbage, cauliflower, tomatoes, and various leafy vegetables are growing well, are crisp and sweet.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Diem (Cong Hoa ward) said: "This year's crop of vegetables and tomatoes is beautiful, of good quality, and has high demand at the markets. Both wholesale and retail prices are higher than in previous years. Tomatoes, in particular, have sold for 20,000-30,000 VND/kg at times right in the garden. Thanks to these vegetables, we farmers have a stable source of income."
Compared to previous years, the area of vegetable cultivation in Quang Ninh province has significantly decreased, currently standing at approximately 200 hectares, scattered across both the eastern and western parts of the province. This only provides about 40% of the market's vegetable production needs. Vegetable growers throughout the province generally adhere to VietGAP standards or organic farming practices, prioritizing food safety and hygiene.
In the agricultural areas of Dong Trieu, Hoang Que, Binh Khe, and An Sinh, along with green vegetables and spices, people also focus on caring for flowers, ornamental plants, late-season potatoes, and planting spring rice. Binh Khe ward is considered a major supplier of kumquats, peach blossoms, and various types of fresh flowers to the Quang Ninh market.
This year, growers are investing heavily in purebred and hybrid varieties of orchids, grafted orchids, and new varieties that have been successfully domesticated in previous seasons in Binh Khe. Thanks to years of experience in planting, caring for, and harvesting flowers, the people of Binh Khe produce beautiful, fresh flowers that bloom evenly and at the right time, retaining their color, and especially at a lower price than flowers transported from other places. Because this is a leap year, the planting season is a month later than usual. Using their experience, the people of Binh Khe have adjusted the blooming time of peach blossoms, apricot blossoms, and kumquat trees, keeping them greener to ensure the fruit ripens just in time for the Lunar New Year.

Farmers in An Sinh ward are currently anticipating a bountiful potato harvest. The ward has approximately 100 hectares of Atlantic potatoes planted, out of a total of about 230 hectares in the province. The plants are currently 75-80 days old and can be harvested early, or in about 10 days to ensure they are harvested on schedule. According to potato growers, this year there is less cracking of the tubers (a reason why the tubers don't meet the purchasing standards of Orion – the company that guarantees the purchase of Atlantic potatoes). Therefore, the people expect a good harvest and good prices this year, with an estimated yield of about 90 tons/ha, revenue reaching 150 million VND/ha, and a profit margin of 30-40% after deducting costs.
For the winter rice crop, the total planted area in the province is expected to be around 15,000 hectares. At this time, farmers have sown about 20% of the seedlings, ready to simultaneously start the spring rice crop immediately after harvesting the winter crops and after the Lunar New Year.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thuc, Head of the Provincial Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, said: Thanks to focusing on techniques and farming experience, along with raising awareness of safe cultivation practices, the province's winter-spring agricultural products are achieving good quality and stable prices, helping farmers feel secure in their production and committed to their fields. The results of this year's winter-spring crop are expected to contribute to Quang Ninh's goal of achieving an agricultural production value of 150 million VND/hectare/year.
