Forest fire turns Chilean city into battlefield

A series of cars burned on the streets of Valparaiso.

Rolando Fernandez, a local resident who lost his home in the wildfire, said he had lived here for 32 years and never thought such a scene would happen.

Fernandez said he saw flames rising from a hill near his home on the afternoon of February 2 and within 15 minutes, the entire area was engulfed in smoke and flames, forcing everyone to flee.

"I worked hard all my life and now I have nothing left," Fernandez said.
