Every time South Korean First Lady Kim Keon-hee appears, the online community goes crazy over her impeccable fashion sense.
According to the Korea Times, the Korean press praises Ms. Kim Keon-hee as a fashion expert, but some people think her image overshadows her husband's.
Kim Keon-hee is considered quite unusual in many ways. Unlike her predecessors who often tried to make a background for their husbands, Kim Keon-hee stood out to the point of 'overshadowing' President Yoon Suk-yeol . During her trip to accompany her husband to the 2022 NATO summit in Spain, Kim Keon-hee was praised for her beautiful dress.
Kim is a rare first lady with her own fan club. An online community dedicated to her has been set up on South Korea’s largest portal Naver. The page currently has more than 93,000 members. The fan page “Keon-hee sarang” (Love for Keon-hee) has attracted more than 3,300 fans, who regularly post photos of her daily life.
Kim Keon-hee's glitz and glamour have sparked mixed opinions in South Korea. According to Data Research, 56.3 percent of respondents in a June 29 survey said she "did not fulfill her role as first lady," while 49.3 percent said her role should be "reduced." The survey polled 1,000 people aged 18 and over nationwide.
In March, when South Korea elected a new president, the public focused on Kim Keon-hee, the CEO and founder of an exhibition planning company.
Ms. Kim, born in 1972, majored in painting at Kyonggi University and went on to earn a master's degree in arteducation , eventually earning a doctorate in digital content design.
While building her career in art and design, Kim worked as an instructor in schools and universities, and founded cultural content company Covana Contents in 2007.
According to the Straits Times, Ms. Kim's company has organized art exhibitions for big names such as Alberto Giacometti, Marc Chagall and Mark Rothko.
Ms. Kim married Mr. Yoon in March 2012. According to Ms. Kim, their relationship did not have any touching love story or cute encounter, but they had known each other for many years.
In a 2018 interview, she revealed that she had known Yoon for “a long time.” After an acquaintance suggested that they would be a good match, they married in 2012. Kim was 40 and Yoon was 52. The couple had no children. They lived with four dogs and three cats.
