A trio of US and Dutch naval ships passing through the East Sea on May 22.
Reuters reported that the US warship USS Mobile (LCS 26), an Independence-class littoral combat ship, the naval transport ship USNS Wally Schirra (T-AKE 8), and the frigate HNLMS Tromp (F803) of the Royal Netherlands Navy participated in a joint operation through the South China Sea.
"The bilateral operation provides a valuable opportunity to improve coordination between allies and conduct complex scenarios to improve operational readiness between the two forces," Reuters quoted the US Navy as saying.
"The Netherlands has one of the longest and most continuous bilateral relationships, dating back to the 18th century. I look forward to any opportunity to work together with our allies and partners, especially at sea," said Capt. Sean Lewis, Destroyer Squadron 7 (DESRON 7), US Navy 7th Fleet.
Colonel Yvonne van Beusekom, commanding officer of the HNLMS Tromp, said that conducting joint operations serves to strengthen existing relations with the US.
The US and Dutch navies did not mention the upcoming plans of the trio of ships after passing through the East Sea.
