According to Venerable Thich Le Trang, Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc self-immolated on June 20, 1963 at the intersection of Le Van Duyet and Phan Dinh Phung, Saigon (now the intersection of Cach Mang Thang Tam and Nguyen Dinh Chieu streets, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City), leaving behind an immortal heart relic, symbolizing the spirit of compassion and wisdom of Buddhism and the tradition of the Vietnamese people.

"Now that the conditions have come together, the invitation, enshrinement and worship of the relics of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc - one of the important spiritual events will be held on the occasion of the United Nations Vesak Festival 2025, in the first days of the Buddha's birthday in the Buddhist calendar 2569", announced Venerable Thich Le Trang.

The Supreme Patriarch, the Venerable Elders of the Council of Patriarchs, and the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha will attend the above event.

Worship ceremony takes place at Vietnam National Pagoda

Previously, the invitation, enshrinement and worship of the heart relic of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc was scheduled to take place on May 3. On the evening of May 2, the organizing committee announced a temporary postponement.

The event of worshiping the heart relic of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc is one of the two official spiritual events of the 2025 United Nations Vesak Festival program and is a program that receives the attention of many monks, nuns, Buddhists, and Buddhist followers.

According to the organizers, by the afternoon of May 2, there were 1,088 delegations with nearly 50,000 people registered to worship.

On the afternoon of May 3rd, the first scheduled opening day, nearly 10,000 people registered online and scheduled their desired time in groups, including many groups of over 1,000 people. Online registration continues.

Security work at the area where the heart relic of Bodhisattva Thich Quang Duc is enshrined is given special attention.

Accordingly, the security camera system in the worship area will be directly connected to the system of Ho Chi Minh City Police, the security force is divided into 4 main departments; 3 parking areas around the campus of Vietnam Quoc Tu; hotlines to handle contact information.

At the same time, 60,000 logo shirts will be given to monks, nuns, Buddhists and people who come to worship, donated by the Ho Chi Minh City Buddhist Information and Communication Department.
