My husband gave all his Tet bonus to his mother and got angry when I said these things.

(Dan Tri) - While many families are eagerly preparing for the New Year, I just feel homesick. The reason comes from the Tet bonus, or more precisely, because of the way my husband handles his bonus.

This year, my husband received a Tet bonus of nearly 100 million VND. Meanwhile, I work for a struggling company, so my bonus is only a few million VND, just enough to buy some Tet gifts for my family.

To be honest, I don’t feel inferior because the company’s difficulties are common. But my in-laws’ attitude of being competitive and disdainful when they found out that I didn’t have much of a Tet bonus made me question my value in this family.

What made me even more bitter was that my husband decided to give all his Tet bonus to his parents-in-law, and only gave me 10 million VND to prepare for Tet. While he knew very well that I had to buy all the Tet items for my husband's family, my family, and also had to buy new clothes for the children.

He said that since mid-year, his mother-in-law told him to give all his Tet bonus to her so she could buy things. She wanted to buy a new sofa, a new refrigerator, and many new things for the house. While my husband and I had moved out, the house needed many things, but my husband didn't care.

He himself always thought that living alone was my choice and demand, so now I have to take care of buying a house myself. He will not be responsible for taking care of that small house. He considers his life in the house as temporary.

When I asked, he just said: "Whoever earns it, spends it. It's my right to give my mother my money. She's worked hard all year, and I want to give it all to my parents for Tet. Moreover, my wife and I are also coming here to celebrate Tet, so it's only natural to give my parents this money."

I choked up listening. He had forgotten that, in addition to his parents, he also had the responsibility to take care of his wife's parents. He had never mentioned it and perhaps he had left it to me.

Since I got married, I have never given my parents any valuable gifts because of financial constraints. But in difficult times, my parents still helped us, never asking for anything or complaining.

I don’t object to giving Tet gifts to my in-laws, but what makes me sad is that he treats me unfairly. 10 million VND to take care of Tet for a family of four is too little. For many years, I have also struggled to take care of my family. I spend the whole year working, and also struggling to take care of my husband and children. Yet, he thinks I have no effort at all.

As Tet approaches, I feel even more suffocated when I see my in-laws praising my son. I just keep quiet. I think about Tet, about the joy of family gatherings, and my heart aches. Does anyone understand the feelings of a wife and daughter-in-law who are shouldering the responsibility of the family?

I just hope that one day, my husband will look back and understand that the family is not just about his parents but also about his wife who has worked hard for so many years. I hope that Tet will be a true day of reunion, where all family members share joy and love.
