Located in the middle of the sea, more than 100 km southeast of Phan Thiet and about 385 km northwest of Truong Sa archipelago (Khanh Hoa province), Phu Quy island has favorable conditions for offshore fishing. Therefore, the locality has identified seafood exploitation as the main industry, thereby shifting the economic structure in the right direction to effectively exploit its own potential and advantages... According to the local government, Phu Quy's current fishing vessel capacity is about 1,740, of which the majority are fishing vessels from 6 m and above managed by the Fisheries Sub-Department with 1,635 vessels. The number of fishing vessels from 15 m to under 24 m alone is 540, fishing vessels from 24 m to under 30 m are 20 and fishing vessels from 30 m and above are 14. Up to now, the locality has also recorded that the entire Phu Quy island has 130 ships providing seafood purchasing and transport services with a total number of workers participating in exploitation of more than 7,560 people.

In the first half of 2025, despite unfavorable weather, Phu Quy's seafood output is still estimated at 17,000 tons (mainly fish and squid), equal to 56.67% of the annual plan. At the same time, the locality also pays attention to monitoring and managing offshore fishing vessel owners, guiding fishermen to properly comply with regulations on participating in fishing activities at sea. At the same time, it focuses on developing sustainable aquaculture in conjunction with good implementation of cage management, contributing to diversifying resources and protecting the marine environment...

In addition to its strengths in seafood exploitation, Phu Quy is also known as the "pearl island" of Binh Thuan and is gradually becoming an attractive destination thanks to its pristine beauty, many famous landscapes and historical and cultural heritages. Some national historical relics include Van An Thanh (worshiping the God of the South Sea - Whale), Ban Tranh Princess Temple, Linh Quang Pagoda. Or the scenic spots of Bai Nho - Ganh Hang, Trieu Duong Bay, Hon Tranh, the majestic Lighthouse, Phu Quy Flagpole affirming the sovereignty of the Fatherland, Cao Cat Mountain with strangely shaped cliffs... It is known that according to the development plan until 2030, Phu Quy will become a provincial-level tourist area and an attractive destination with a unique sea - island tourism brand.
With rich and diverse tourism resources, in 2024, Phu Quy Island attracted more than 150,000 visitors to visit and experience the place at the forefront of the wind and waves. In the first 6 months of this year, tourism activities in Phu Quy were still bustling and were estimated to welcome more than 82,000 visitors, and the number of visitors is forecast to continue to increase during the peak summer tourist season of 2025. In parallel with tourism development, the transportation route Phu Quy - Phan Thiet has also gradually improved the quality of services with a number of high-speed trains specializing in transporting passengers such as Supperdong I, Supperdong II, Trung Trac... Meanwhile, the road transport capacity on this island currently has more than 250 cars of all kinds, thereby basically meeting the travel needs of local people and tourists when coming to Phu Quy.
In the future, Phu Quy will become a special zone of the new Lam Dong province (based on the merger of the three provinces of Lam Dong, Binh Thuan, Dak Nong), and this place will continue to focus on exploiting its potential and advantages to bring the local marine economy to a worthy level. Especially with its unique geographical location, Phu Quy can become a center for fishery logistics services in a large fishing ground associated with protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands of the Fatherland.
