According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop sowing area in the whole province ensures the set plan. Water sources stored in reservoirs and streams ensure water supply for crops. Rice yield is estimated at 72.4 quintals/ha, output is about 192,691.4 tons (down 6.1% in yield and 3.4% in output compared to the previous winter-spring crop); the area converted from rice land to other crops is over 114 hectares. Consumption prices of the province's main agricultural products such as rice and cassava have decreased compared to the same period; rice prices range from 6,000-8,500 VND/kg, cassava prices range from 1,800-2,600 VND/kg of fresh tubers with 30% starch content; the purchase price of raw sugarcane is higher than the same period last year and the consumption situation is stable.
At the conference, delegates focused on discussing, analyzing the causes and proposing proactive solutions to prevent and combat drought, water shortages, and saltwater intrusion; ensuring adequate irrigation water supply for the summer-autumn and winter-spring crops of 2025. Because according to forecasts, from now until July 2025, the heat wave will expand and increase in intensity across the province, with 1/20 irrigation works at risk of water shortage in the summer-autumn crop in areas at the end of the canal, far from the irrigation area, with a total affected area of about 700-1,000 hectares...
To minimize the impact of drought and water shortage in the summer-autumn and winter-spring crops in 2025, the provincial Department of Agriculture recommends that localities and units proactively implement plans and solutions to prevent and combat drought and water shortages in accordance with the actual situation and conditions. In particular, it is necessary to proactively arrange the production structure according to the seasonal calendar, in accordance with the water source capacity, not to plant in areas where water sources are not guaranteed; convert crops from rice fields to other upland crops that are drought- and salinity-tolerant in areas with difficult water sources; prepare all kinds of materials, fuels, and machinery to serve the work of preventing and combating drought and water shortages promptly and effectively, minimizing the damage caused by drought.
Regarding summer-autumn rice production, follow the sowing schedule from May 20 to June 10 (April 23 to May 15 of the lunar calendar); the main rice varieties are: DV108, Dai Thom 8, BDR27, PY10. As for other crops, depending on the land conditions, irrigation water, consumption market situation and habits, arrange crops appropriately; continue to proactively convert ineffective rice growing land, high land, and lack of proactive irrigation water sources to grow vegetables with stable consumption markets; apply technical measures such as pruning, canopy creation, using water-saving irrigation systems and producing according to the IPHM integrated plant health management process... to improve production efficiency.
