Tra Vinh is a revolutionary base in the Mekong Delta region. During the war years, together with the whole country, the Party Committee, government and people of Tra Vinh province did not spare their blood and bones, fought bravely and steadfastly, contributing to the cause of national independence and national reunification. The whole province currently has nearly 65,000 people with meritorious services, including more than 19,600 martyrs; more than 9,800 wounded and sick soldiers; more than 3,370 Vietnamese Heroic Mothers. In recent years, the province has done a good job of taking care of people with meritorious services, striving to ensure that people with meritorious services can fully and promptly enjoy the State's policies, and have a material and spiritual life better than the average living standard of local people.

At the meeting, delegates of the meritorious people of Tra Vinh province expressed their gratitude to the Party, State and society for always caring for the meritorious people both materially and spiritually. The meritorious people of Tra Vinh province always strive to improve their lives, carry out local movements well; and are shining examplesin educating their children and the younger generation about the tradition of patriotism.

President Vo Van Thuong delivered a speech, expressing his deep gratitude for the great contributions and sacrifices of previous generations in the cause of national liberation and reunification. The people of Tra Vinh, together with the whole country, were brave, resilient, and ready to contribute and sacrifice. Many became symbols of revolutionary heroism, such as “Sister Ut Tich”.

The President highly appreciated the Party Committee, government and people of Tra Vinh province for always upholding the tradition of the heroic homeland, bringing Tra Vinh from a very difficult locality to now having proud development, the people's lives have been gradually improved. In particular, the province always cares about the lives of policy families and people with meritorious services, demonstrating the fine traditions of the nation: "When drinking water, remember the source", "When eating fruit, remember the person who planted the tree".

Affirming that the Party and State always try to care for and look after people with meritorious services, the President requested all levels, sectors, Party Committees and authorities of Tra Vinh province to continue to effectively and thoughtfully implement the State's policies on this work. The province continues to review so as not to miss out people with meritorious services to the revolution who have not yet enjoyed the State's policies, but also to prevent the situation of support policies being given to the wrong subjects.

Along with that, the province needs to further promote the movement of the entire people taking care of families of war invalids, martyrs, and people with meritorious services, so that people with meritorious services are always cared for and cared for, ensuring their lives in any circumstances; not allowing people with meritorious services to be forgotten or left behind in the implementation of the Party and State's social security policies. The President emphasized that implementing well the policy for people with meritorious services is also a measure to strengthen the great national unity bloc, especially in Tra Vinh where many ethnic minorities have sacrificed for the revolution.

The President noted that the province should step up propaganda and education for all levels of people, especially the young generation, about the morality of drinking water and remembering its source; remembering and showing gratitude for the great contributions and sacrifices of previous generations.

The President hopes that the meritorious people of Tra Vinh province will continue to promote the tradition of their heroic revolutionary homeland, educate their children and grandchildren, and contribute to building their homeland and the country to become more and more developed.
