After 5:00 p.m. on July 28, 2025, the university admission registration system of the Ministry of Education and Training will officially close to carry out the next process of filtering virtual wishes and announcing the admission results.

In particular, candidates must know how to “cut their coat according to their cloth” when registering for admission, thereby increasing their chances of being admitted.”

In the 2025 high school graduation exam, Nguyen Thi Thu Huong, a student at Tran Bien High School, scored 26 points in three subjects: Math, Chemistry, and Biology. With this score, her dream of becoming a student at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine (Ho Chi Minh City) is unlikely to come true. After carefully analyzing her chances of admission, she decided to change her direction and enroll in the e-commerce major at Foreign Trade University (Ho Chi Minh City).

Meanwhile, Doan Nguyen Thang, a former student of Ngo Quyen High School (Tran Bien Ward), said that in the 2025 High School Graduation Exam, he got 29 points in 3 subjects: Math, Physics, and Chemistry. With this score, he is basically confident about his chance of being admitted to the Mathematics Pedagogy major at Ho Chi Minh City University of Education. "In previous years, the benchmark for the Mathematics Pedagogy major was 27 points. This year, the graduation exam score in Math is lower than in previous years, so I hope the benchmark will be a little lower" - Thang expressed.

Not only candidates, many parents also feel worried about their children's university admission choices. Mr. Nguyen Minh Truong, in Long Thanh commune, shared: "My child wants to apply to Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics , but in the combination of 3 subjects: Math, Literature and English, he only got 23 points. With this score, I am also very worried because the admission scores of previous years of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics were significantly higher."

Mr. Truong added that, in order to be admitted to the university of his first choice, he had agreed with his child not to make a decision on university admission before July 26, 2025, so that he could ask teachers and experienced people for advice. If the chance of being admitted to the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City is not high, he and his child will make a decision to choose to study economics at another university that is more suitable for his child's academic ability.

Do not "prepare" too many admission requests

Candidates are not limited in the number of wishes and the number of times they can adjust their wishes when applying for university. However, candidates should note that they should not "compose" too many wishes for themselves, in which the highest priority is still wish 1. For wish 1, they must think carefully about the chances of being admitted, their interests and strengths with this wish before applying for admission.

It is difficult to predict whether the benchmark score is high or low.

Up to now, many schools have announced the minimum score for university admission in 2025. Some schools have announced the minimum score from 16-20 points, but some schools have announced a very wide minimum score, from 16-24 points with the admission method of considering high school graduation exam scores. For the capacity assessment test scores, schools have the lowest score from 620 points to 850 points. The minimum score for admission this year of schools is assessed to be equivalent to previous years. However, candidates need to clearly distinguish between the minimum score and the admission score, which are completely different, the admission standard score may be much higher than the minimum score.

According to experts in the field of admissions, one of the important factors that affects the formation of this year's benchmark score is the range of exam scores, the number of candidates registering for admission, the short admission period and the concentration in a short time. With the 2025 high school graduation exam score range announced by the Ministry of Education and Training on July 16, admissions experts predict that this year's benchmark scores of top universities may decrease by 0.5-1 points compared to previous years, while those of lower-ranking schools may remain stable.

The most unpredictable is still in schools and majors with benchmark scores from previous years in the range of 20-24 points (also the common score in this year's exam). Therefore, candidates must be more careful when registering their admission wishes, especially the first wish, because this is the most important wish and needs to be prioritized.

According to Dr. Nguyen Van Trung, Head of Admissions Department of Lac Hong University (Tran Bien Ward), candidates need to base on their scores in the competency assessment exam and high school graduation exam to make a decision to register for admission. If candidates have high test scores, they can confidently "compete" in the top schools, but if the test score is only 20 points or less/3 subjects, candidates must measure their strength to make the right choice. It is necessary to avoid putting pressure on yourself, or putting yourself at risk when your test scores are not high but you still try to register for the top schools, which have a very fierce level of competition.
