National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue receives Lao Ambassador Sengphet Houngboungnuang

On the afternoon of October 5, at the National Assembly House, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue received Lao Ambassador Sengphet Houngboungnuang to say goodbye, ending his term of office in Vietnam.

The National Assembly Chairman congratulated Ambassador Sengphet Houngboungnuang on successfully completing his term in Vietnam. The Ambassador and the Lao Embassy in Vietnam have made great efforts to play the role of a bridge, making many important contributions to the development of relations between the two countries and the two National Assemblies.

The National Assembly Chairman highly appreciated that during the Ambassador's term in Vietnam, the world and regional situation had complicated developments, the COVID-19 pandemic broke out and spread, the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, two States and people of Vietnam and Laos had been increasingly consolidated and strengthened. Ambassador Sengphet Houngboungnuang has contributed to promoting the relationship between the two National Assemblies in depth, practically and effectively, especially the activities to celebrate the Vietnam - Laos and Laos - Vietnam Solidarity and Friendship Year in 2022. The two National Assemblies regularly maintain high-level delegation exchanges and exchange experiences in institution building and socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security...

During the meetings and contacts, the two National Assembly Chairmen of the two countries discussed, resolved and determined directions to resolve a number of problems and cooperation projects between the two countries. The two National Assemblies closely coordinated and supported each other at regional and international inter-parliamentary forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (AIPA), etc.

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said that the Vietnamese National Assembly supports and is ready to assist and share experiences with the Lao National Assembly to successfully organize the CLV Summit (Cambodia - Laos - Vietnam) in Vientiane in early December 2023; the Lao National Assembly successfully assumes the role of AIPA Chair 2024 and organizes the 45th AIPA General Assembly (October 2024).

Thanking National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue for taking the time to meet, Ambassador Sengphet Houngboungnuang expressed his joy that Vietnam has a fast economic and social development rate, maintaining security and national defense associated with economic development, improving people's lives. Vietnam is one of the countries with the fastest economic growth rate in the world. Visiting localities, the Ambassador felt that provinces and cities are competing to develop their economy and society, contributing to the overall development of the country.

Emphasizing that Vietnam's foreign direct investment attraction ranks first among ASEAN countries, the Ambassador assessed that Vietnam's position and role in the international arena have been increasingly enhanced. 2020 marked Vietnam's success in its role as ASEAN Chair for the 37th time in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. This is also the year that ASEAN has the largest number of common documents adopted. Vietnam successfully completed its term as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the 2020-2021 term. Participation in UN peacekeeping operations in very difficult areas has affirmed Vietnam as a responsible member of the international community. These activities have received support from the authorities and people of the destination.

The Ambassador said that the achievements that Vietnam has made in recent times have contributed to maintaining a peaceful and stable environment, creating many favorable conditions for national development. The Ambassador expressed his belief that Vietnam will continue to successfully implement the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, especially the goal of becoming a developed, high-income country by 2045, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the country.

Agreeing with the opinion of the National Assembly Chairman, Ambassador Sengphet Houngboungnuang said that the relationship between the two countries continues to be strengthened and developed very well, including cooperation between the two National Assemblies. Along with the establishment of many new bilateral cooperation mechanisms, there is also the Cambodia - Laos - Vietnam cooperation mechanism, on the Party, National Assembly, Government channels... According to the Ambassador, these cooperation mechanisms are extremely important, contributing to making the friendly and cooperative relationship between the three Indochinese countries increasingly stronger.

On this occasion, Ambassador Sengphet Houngboungnuang sincerely thanked the leaders of the Party, State and people of Vietnam for always supporting, helping and standing shoulder to shoulder with Laos from the arduous years of national liberation struggle to the current national construction and development. The Ambassador said that this reflects the special solidarity relationship between Laos and Vietnam.

The National Assembly Chairman thanked the Ambassador for his sentiments and assessment of Vietnam's achievements and the special Vietnam-Laos relationship. According to the National Assembly Chairman, Vietnam's achievements are due to not only Vietnam's own efforts but also the solidarity, cooperation and support of neighboring countries and international friends.

The Party, State and people of Vietnam always remember and are grateful for the support and assistance of the brotherly country of Laos. The special solidarity and close relationship between the two countries and peoples of Vietnam and Laos, which has been painstakingly built, preserved and nurtured by generations of leaders of the two Parties, States and peoples, is a priceless asset that needs to be continued to be preserved and promoted.

On this occasion, through Ambassador Sengphet Houngboungnuang, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue sent his regards and best wishes to General Secretary and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith, Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, Chairman of the Lao National Assembly Saysomphone Phomvihane and other leaders of the Lao Party and State.
