Tay Nguyen Ethnic Minority High School was established on December 17, 2004 under Decision No. 1366/QD-UB of the Chairman of Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee, initially named Tay Nguyen Ethnic Minority Semi-Public High School.
On September 4, 2005, the school opened its first school year and was recognized by the superiors as the school's Traditional Day. On January 23, 2009, the Chairman of the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee signed Decision No. 182/QD-UBND to change the name to Tay Nguyen Ethnic Minority High School.
In the 2005-2006 school year, the school had only 3 classes, 58 students, and 6 teachers; now it has 39 classes, with more than 1,600 students, 149 teachers and staff; including 311 international students from the Lao People's Democratic Republic.

Since 2020, the school has been honored to be entrusted by the superior Head and has performed well the task of training students of the Lao People's Democratic Republic; initially creating prestige, being a trusted address for Lao parents and international students; contributing to building the great friendship and special solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Phan, Principal of the school, emphasized that after 20 years of establishment and development, Tay Nguyen Ethnic Minority High School has achieved many successes. The quality of education of the school in recent years has been ranked among the top high-quality schools in the province. The rate of students passing high school graduation exams and university entrance exams is 100%. Some students passed the entrance exams to the Military Medical Academy, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Ho Chi Minh City and the Police and Military schools...

Student management and training have been improved; the staff of student managers are increasingly professional, dedicated, and enthusiastic with students. The work of ensuring facilities is increasingly invested in and improved. On September 4, 2025, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee decided to change the name of Tay Nguyen Ethnic Minority High School to Tay Nguyen Secondary and High School.

In his speech, Major General, Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Ngoc Trung, Director of the Military Science Academy, commended and congratulated the outstanding achievements and remarkable growth of the Tay Nguyen Ethnic Minority High School. He suggested that the school continue to promote the 20-year tradition of building and developing the school; attach importance to comprehensive education in terms of knowledge, skills and qualities for students; build smart educational platforms; promote the application of science, technology, and artificial intelligence in innovating teaching and learning methods, testing and evaluation; promote the application of digital education models and smart educational management.
The school thoroughly grasps the viewpoints and orientations on education and training of the Party and the State; performs well the work of managing and training students; implements policies, cares for and improves the material and spiritual life of cadres, teachers, employees and workers; focuses on building a healthy cultural and pedagogical environment.
On this occasion, Tay Nguyen Ethnic Minority High School was honored to receive the Third Class Fatherland Protection Medal from the President for its outstanding achievements in educating and training international students.
