Stock market on December 17th: Red dominates the market, VN-Index reverses course and falls.

On December 17th, widespread selling pressure on blue-chip stocks plunged the Vietnamese stock market into the red after yesterday's impressive recovery. Foreign investors traded cautiously, reflecting a hesitant sentiment amidst the volatile market. At the close of trading, the VN-Index fell 5.52 points to 1,673.66 points.

Market liquidity decreased compared to the previous session, with a total trading volume of over 696 million shares across all three exchanges, equivalent to a total trading value of over 21,209 billion VND.

Foreign investors reversed their trend and bought net on all three exchanges, totaling over 4 billion VND, focusing on stocks such as HDB (135.91 billion VND),FPT (101.43 billion VND), GEX (79.11 billion VND), TCX (51.64 billion VND), KDH (50.87 billion VND), etc.

Conversely, the stocks that saw significant net selling in this session included VIC (VND 170.89 billion), CTG (VND 81.1 billion), VHM (VND 64.07 billion), MSN (VND 650.68 billion), GMD (VND 43.68 billion), etc.

On the HoSE exchange, the trading value in this session decreased compared to the previous session, reaching over 14,393 billion VND.

In this session, the stocks that contributed positively to the VN-Index's increase of 5.77 points included: VPL, GEE, BID, VCK, FPT, GEX, BMP, TCX, PVD, and VPX.

Conversely, the stocks that negatively impacted the VN-Index, causing it to drop by 6.31 points, included: VJC, GAS, CTG, TCB, VNM, HVN, HPG, DGC, SAB, and VPB.

In terms of sectors, software stocks performed positively in this session, rising 1.07%, mainly driven by CMG, ELC, ITD, etc. A few stocks declined, including PIA…

Real estate stocks were mostly in the red this session, falling 0.46%, mainly due to declines in VHM, BCM, KBC, NVL, PDR, VPI, DXG, SJS, TCH, TAL, IDC, etc. Conversely, gainers included VRE, KDH, CRV, CRE, LSG, PXL, CKG, TIG, TDC, SID, HPX, SZB, etc.

Energy stocks were mostly in the green this session, rising 0.4%, mainly driven by PLX, PVS, PVD, OIL, MVB, PVC, TMB, GSP, PVB, HLC, NBC… Stocks that declined included BSR , PVP, VTO, TVD, VTV, PPT, PSB, MDC, ASP, PTX…

The materials sector stocks were mostly in the red this session, falling 0.66%, mainly due to declines in HPG, GVR, DGC, DCM, DPM, HSG, VCS, ACG, DDV, TDP, GDA, BFC, etc. Conversely, gainers included MSR, KSV, NTP, PHR, ACG, DDV, TDP, GDA, BFC, RTB, VLB, TRC, etc.

Insurance stocks traded mostly in the green, closing up 0.45%, mainly driven by PVI, BMI, PGI, ABI, BLI… A few stocks declined, including BIC and MIG…

Retail stocks performed negatively, falling 0.18%, mainly due to declines in stocks like MWG, HUT, DGW, HHS, SVC, VVS, PEG, C69, HAM, HTL, PNV, KDM… Conversely, gainers included FRT, PET, HTM, HAX, GMA, PSD, HTC, DST, CMV…

* The Vietnamese stock market index was in the red today, with the VNXALL-Index closing down 15.04 points (-0.53%) at 2,814.56 points. Trading volume exceeded 623.6 million units, equivalent to a trading value of over 19,134.22 billion VND. Across the market, 128 stocks increased in price, 86 remained unchanged, and 255 decreased.

* On the Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX), the HNX-Index closed at 253.12 points, down 1.96 points (-0.77%). Total trading volume reached over 47.3 million shares, with a corresponding transaction value of over 920.25 billion VND. Across the entire market, 46 stocks increased in price, 52 remained unchanged, and 96 decreased.

The HNX30 index closed down 6.47 points (-0.118%), at 542.46 points. Trading volume reached over 31.95 million units, with a corresponding value of over 766.5 billion VND. Across the market, there were 7 gainers, 3 unchanged stocks, and 20 losers.

On the UPCoM market, the UPCoM-Index closed at 118.76 points, up 0.46 points (+0.39%). Total market liquidity reached over 36.46 million shares traded, with a corresponding trading value of over 756.65 billion VND. Across the market, 129 stocks increased in price, 89 remained unchanged, and 92 decreased.

* On the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange, the VN-Index closed down 5.52 points (-0.33%), at 1,673.66 points. Trading volume reached over 612.25 million units, equivalent to a transaction value of VND 19,532.13 billion. Across the entire exchange, there were 114 gainers, 54 unchanged stocks, and 206 losers.

The VN30 index fell 11.92 points (-0.62%) to 1,897.95 points. Trading volume reached over 275.21 million units, equivalent to a transaction value of over 9,756.15 billion VND. Among the VN30 stocks, 6 increased, 3 remained unchanged, and 21 decreased in price.

The top 5 stocks with the highest trading volume were PVD (over 20.09 million units), GEX (over 13.15 million units), DBC (over 10.72 million units), VRE (over 8.6 million units), and VCK (over 6.5 million units).
