According to Dr. Nguyen Tri Hieu, on November 18, 2023, when he went to the bank to withdraw money, he was shocked and shocked when the staff informed him that his account had only 50,000 VND left, while previously his balance was nearly 500 million VND. After being reported, the bank provided a detailed statement of transactions from the account.

Specifically, from November 3 to 17, 2023, the account holder transferred money to many different accounts at several other banks. During that time, the account holder sent two requests to reissue the OTP authentication password via the Internet Banking application. Surprisingly, this password was also sent to the phone number that Dr. Nguyen Tri Hieu registered with the bank. However, instead of being sent to the phone he still uses, which is an iPhone, the bank said that this password was sent to a Xiaomi phone. At the same time, he also did not receive a message notifying him of a change in his account balance as before.

Surprisingly, after more than 3 months of the incident, this expert sent a request for compensation from the bank but still received no response. In fact, no branch manager or bank leader has even met him directly.

As soon as he discovered that his account had been hacked for nearly half a billion dong, the expert filed a complaint with the police. He was then informed that the police had also asked the bank to send detailed information about the account numbers that had received the money transfers and asked the relevant banks to provide information. However, more than a week ago, he contacted the police again and was told that there was nothing new. This made him feel disappointed and felt that the matter was "going into a dead end".

Hacked for nearly 500 million VND, but after more than 3 months, Dr. Nguyen Tri Hieu still has not been able to contact any leaders from the bank.

"I sent a complaint and request to the bank through the teller. Then, I received an email from the teller forwarding a response from the technical information department sending statements and information about the money transfer. Up to now, I have not received any official document from the bank or met directly with any leader to discuss how to resolve the issue. The bank completely ignored it and did not mention anything about responsibility or compensation for the lost money. Currently, I still do not want to give the specific name of this bank because I still have to discuss details with them as well as let the police investigate," Dr. Nguyen Tri Hieu shared.

This behavior, according to him, is "too strange". The call on the afternoon of March 31 said that there would be a meeting with the bank's leaders, although the specific time has not been determined, because he shared about this in the press. Dr. Nguyen Tri Hieu emphasized: "If I had not shared with the press, I might not have been able to contact the leaders of this bank. I myself am a person working in the banking industry, having participated as a consultant for a number of commercial banks in Vietnam. But when the incident happened, the bank still "ignored". Thus, it can be seen that for a normal customer, filing a complaint will face many difficulties. This is an irresponsible act towards customers. Through this incident, I think that individuals should not keep a lot of money in their accounts because the risk of loss is quite high".
