International media has had positive assessments of US President Joe Biden's state visit to Vietnam and the two countries' upgrading of relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership for peace , cooperation and sustainable development.

Japanese newspapers have published many articles praising US President Joe Biden's visit to Vietnam. Nikkei Asia quoted President Biden as saying that upgrading relations with Vietnam aims to boost trade while addressing a range of challenges such as geo-economic competition and climate change.

The Asahi and Mainichi newspapers commented that by upgrading their relations this time, the two countries aim to further strengthen their cooperation in areas such as economics, semiconductors, artificial intelligence (AI) development and security. Meanwhile, the Nikkei newspaper commented that the visit also shows that the two sides agree to respect each other's political institutions and independence and autonomy.

The Korean press and media also reported it prominently. Yonhap, Newsis, and Asiatoday news agencies all emphasized that Vietnam and the United States upgraded their bilateral relations to the highest level: Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Yonhap news agency quoted General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong as declaring that Vietnam upgraded the relationship between the two countries for peace, cooperation, and sustainable development. Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden stated that the relationship between the two countries has gone from conflict to normalization and "is now raised to a new level". SBS quoted expert Nguyen Khac Giang of the ISEAS Institute in Singapore as saying that the upgrade of diplomatic relations with the United States shows that Vietnam's position has been raised.

According to CNN, US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby assessed the US-Vietnam relationship as “an important relationship in an important region of the world”. AP news agency wrote: The US President visited Vietnam and the two countries raised their relationship to the highest level: Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. This relationship reflects the US’s broader efforts across Asia.

“It’s about creating economic growth and stability everywhere in the world. And that’s what we’re trying to do,” US President Joe Biden said. “We have an opportunity to strengthen cooperation around the world to maintain stability. That’s what this trip is about.” According to AP, Joe Biden opened the press conference with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong by saying that he had “traveled around the world in five days from Washington to New Delhi and now Hanoi,” demonstrating his government’s efforts to strengthen ties. The news agency also quoted US President Joe Biden calling Vietnam “a trusted friend, partner and responsible member of the international community.”

He noted that veterans like John Kerry, the President's special climate envoy, and the late Arizona Republican Sen. John McCain, a Vietnam prisoner of war, found ways to build relationships with Vietnam after the war.
