This is the second crop that Ms. Ma Thi Dep's family (Muong Kem village, Nghia Do commune) has grown cucumbers under the joint model. Due to experience in planting and caring for the crop, her family's 1 hectare of cucumbers has grown and developed well, giving high yields.
According to Ms. Dep, income from melons is much higher than from rice because melons are easy to grow, easy to care for, have few diseases, and are purchased by the company at a stable price.

Mr. Hoang Van Diep's family (Muong Kem village) grows 2.5 sao of melons. On average, his family harvests 200 kg of melons per day, earning 600,000 - 700,000 VND/day.

It is known that Mr. Diep's family is a pioneer in boldly converting rice fields to grow melons under a joint model. His family's first melon crop is expected to yield 5 tons, bringing in tens of millions of dong in income.
Currently, farmers in Nghia Do commune are focusing on harvesting the first crop of melons under a product consumption partnership program with the Cucumber Company of the Region in Bac Ninh province. It is estimated that 1 sao of melons will yield about 50kg/day.

Participating in the linkage model are 48 households with 5.2 hectares in Muong Kem, Na Luong, Ban Hon and Ban Hoc villages. The households are provided with seeds, fertilizers, instructions on planting techniques, care and pest control measures by the company.
The company purchases at a committed price of 2 - 15,000 VND/kg. The company purchases products as they are harvested. After the first 2 days of harvesting, the company purchased over 3 tons of melons.
Cucumbers are easy to grow, easy to care for, and have a short growth period. After more than a month, the melons will begin to be harvested. There are many different batches of melons, so the harvest period lasts about 30 to 45 days.

With this linkage model, people can take advantage of areas that cannot grow rice, areas that do not have a proactive water source or are locally flooded to grow cucumbers. Raising the beds will take advantage of low-lying land while still ensuring enough irrigation water, helping cucumbers grow and develop well.
With the initial success of the melon growing model, the Party Committee and the government of Nghia Do commune are continuing to promote propaganda and mobilize people to expand the melon growing area; at the same time, continue to link production and consume products to ensure stable output and increase income for people.
