Accordingly, the team wants to change its name from Becamex Binh Duong to Becamex TP.HCM. This move takes place in the context of the team strongly restructuring both its personnel and development strategy.
The team expressed its desire to receive support from the management agencies to complete the name change procedure before the new season. This is considered an important step to ensure that the team can use the new name right from the new season, while also being consistent with the strategy of developing the image and expanding the fan base in the current transition period.
In the document, Binh Duong representative said that the name change comes from a new development orientation, in line with the policy and need to build a more cohesive image with fans in the Southern region, especially Ho Chi Minh City. This is a surprising move as previously, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Becamex IDC Nguyen Van Hung had affirmed that he would keep the team name.
The name change also comes with a strong rebuilding of the squad. The team from the capital retained Tien Linh and Que Ngoc Hai. On the other hand, after parting ways with key players Nguyen Hai Huy and Vo Hoang Minh Khoa, Binh Duong added a series of young faces such as Cao Quoc Khanh - former U23 Vietnam player, along with potential domestic players such as Phan Thanh Hau and To Phuong Thinh.
Binh Duong will soon train in Da Nang and select more foreign players. The name change, if approved, will mark a major step in the journey to renew the image of one of the most traditional clubs in V.League.
