Ho Chi Minh City Ho Chi Minh City Club took an early lead but was equalized 1-1 by Hai Phong at the end of the match, missing out on a second consecutive win in the 2023-2024 V-League.
* Goals: Ha Long 2' – Hoang Nam 87'.
At Thong Nhat Stadium on the evening of December 9, the advantage came to the home team Ho Chi Minh City in the 2nd minute. Bui Ngoc Long dribbled hard on the right wing and then crossed the ball but was pushed out by goalkeeper Dinh Trieu, but Ha Long was in the right place to decisively kick the ball to open the score.
Ho Chi Minh City defended tightly in the following minutes, but Hai Phong still created opportunities. Striker Lucao do Break was unlucky in his shots in the penalty area. Most notably, Nguyen Huu Son's close-range shot went wide, causing Hai Phong to leave the first half with a score of 0-1.

In the second half, Hai Phong continued to play more clearly while Ho Chi Minh City did not counterattack well. In the 64th minute, Hai Phong crossed the ball from the left wing, grazed Joseph Mpande's head and then hit Lucao. Midfielder Tuan Anh rushed in to block it with his thigh before quickly flicking his right foot to send the ball into a difficult corner, but goalkeeper Patrik Le Giang had a great reflex to block it.
Hai Phong's down-field moves posed many dangers to the home team's goal. In the 76th minute, Dam Tien Dung's attempt to pass the ball from the back helped Luong Xuan Truong shoot in the penalty area but was blocked by Ngo Tung Quoc. A similar situation occurred in the 87th minute when Joseph Mpande rushed in and hit the post. The ball bounced back for Xuan Truong to volley but was once again blocked by Tung Quoc with his back, but it was Luong Hoang Nam's third shot that brought the goal to Hai Phong.

At the end of the match, captain Ngo Tung Quoc received a second yellow card, which was also a red card, for time-wasting. Then, Dang Van Toi's diving tackle to stop Cheick Timite caused referee Hoang Ngoc Ha to argue with the home player. However, 1-1 was the final score of the match.
This result makes the third to sixth place in the 2023-2024 Night Wolf National Championship have eight points, respectively Hai Phong (+3, 10 goals), Hanoi Police (+3, 9), Ho Chi Minh City Club (+3, 7) and Viettel (0).
