Lydia Hartman (22 years old) is a resident of New York state (USA). One recent evening, she reached for a bottle of eye drops in her nightstand. However, instead of taking the eye drops, she mistakenly took a bottle of super glue, according to the news site Indy100 (UK).

American Lydia Hartman put super glue in her left eye because she mistook it for eye drops.

After opening the glue bottle, she dropped it on her eyeball and the inside of her lower left eyelid. She immediately noticed something was different and realized that what she had dropped in her eye was not eye drops but glue. She immediately rushed to the emergency room.

In general, confusion between eye drops and superglue is rare. Because superglue has a stronger odor, many have a very different consistency than eye drops.

"The doctor asked me to apply an ointment that would dissolve and dissolve the glue," Lydia said. Several nurses came and helped apply the ointment to her left eye. However, the eyelid still did not move because it was too tightly stuck.

"Because the ointment was not working, the doctors and nurses started to pry off the glue to help my eyelids open," Lydia said.

However, this effort was still unsuccessful. At that time, Lydia began to fear. She feared that she would be like this forever and would have to live with the blindness in her left eye due to the glued eyelid. What happened next was truly a challenge for the young girl.

"After that, the medical staff took me to a private room and used a metal tool to pry open my eyelids. Finally, my eyelids were opened," Lydia recounted.

When she opened her eyelids, the whites of her eyes were bloodshot. The nurse gave her a piece of gauze and placed it on her eyes. It was very painful.

To warn others, Lydia used her phone to record her condition from the moment her eyes were glued until they were able to open. She posted the video to her TikTok account, which has 112,000 followers. In the video , she is seen wearing a hospital gown while medical staff use metal tools to pry the glue and open her eyelids.

The video has been viewed about 5.4 million times. Many commenters expressed surprise at Lydia’s unbelievable mistake, while others encouraged her to recover quickly. One commenter, a former ophthalmologist, said that these incidents may be more common than we think. Sometimes, the only way to open the eyelid is to remove the eyelashes, according to Indy100.
