Hunter Biden admitted to possessing a gun while being a drug user under a plea agreement with the U.S. Attorney's Office in Delaware on June 20. He will also agree to a probation agreement related to one count of illegal possession of a gun while under the influence of drugs, prosecutors said on June 20.
The allegations were detailed in a criminal court filing in Delaware, where prosecutor David Weiss, appointed by former President Donald Trump, is conducting an investigation into possible money laundering, foreign lobbying and other potential violations by Hunter Biden.

Mr. Weiss is considering charging Hunter Biden, who has publicly acknowledged years of struggles with drugs and alcohol, with lying on a 2018 application to purchase a handgun. Hunter Biden said he did not use drugs.
Hunter Biden's attorney Christopher Clark said the agreement with federal prosecutors will "resolve" the Justice Department's long-standing criminal investigation into President Biden's son.

Negotiations to reach a plea deal have accelerated in recent weeks, with Hunter Biden’s legal team arranging a meeting with the Justice Department in April, with Weiss in attendance.
At the meeting, Hunter Biden’s lawyers detailed why they believe Hunter Biden should not be charged, arguing in part that Hunter Biden has paid back taxes, including penalties.
Hunter Biden has previously told associates that he has paid his tax bills.
In a brief statement, the White House said President Biden's family "loves their son." White House spokesman Ian Sams said: "President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill love their son and support him as he rebuilds his life. We will have no further comment."
Meanwhile, former President Trump criticized Hunter Biden's plea deal on the social network Truth Social.
Hunter Biden's guilty plea is expected to have implications for the 2024 presidential race, when Biden is the leading candidate of the Democratic Party.
