Vinh Phuc Provincial Police discovered and handled an internationally wanted subject.

In recent times, the situation of foreigners residing and operating in Vietnam has become increasingly complicated, with many potential risks affecting security and order. With a proactive spirit and a firm grasp of the area, the Vinh Phuc Provincial Police force has discovered and successfully handled a Korean subject who is wanted internationally.

In April 2025, during the process of checking the residence of foreigners at Lafortuna apartment building, Vinh Yen city, Vinh Phuc Provincial Police discovered a Korean citizen who did not declare temporary residence, did not have valid labor records, and showed signs of illegal residence. Immediately, the Immigration Department, Vinh Phuc Provincial Police quickly deployed professional measures, coordinating with units to verify identity through the system.

The results showed that the subject was Kim Ji Won, born in 1993, who was sentenced to 10 months in prison by the Korean Court for organizing transnational gambling in 2019 and is currently wanted by the Interpol General Secretariat for the crime of opening an illegal online betting site.

Kim Ji Won graduated from Buchoen University with a major in Robot Programming in Information Technology. After graduating, Kim Ji Won worked in the technology field in Korea, then went to Cambodia to participate in organizing online gambling advertisements.

In 2019, Kim Ji Won was arrested by the Korean Police for online gambling and was sentenced to 10 months in prison with a suspended sentence by the Korean Court. In February 2024, Kim Ji Won was sponsored by Plan In Vietnam Co., Ltd. to enter Vietnam to work. In September 2024, Kim Ji Won quit her job at the Company but did not report to the Immigration Department and continued to use the temporary residence card issued to reside and operate in Vietnam and secretly move through many provinces and cities. From a technology engineer, Kim Ji Won gradually turned herself into an internationally wanted person, constantly changing her place of residence to evade the law.

Vinh Phuc Provincial Police have issued a Decision to administratively fine Kim Ji Won with a fine of 17,500,000 VND, with the additional penalty of deportation. Currently, Kim Ji Won has been handed over by Vinh Phuc Provincial Police to the Accommodation Facility No. 1 - Ministry of Public Security for management according to regulations.
