On September 1, news from Ho Chi Minh City Police said that the unit had just dismantled a gang led by Nguyen Van Tuan (Ba Tuan - born in 1978, residing in Ward 7, District 8), specializing in extorting property from traders at Binh Dien market (District 8).

Nguyen Van Tuan is related to Chau Phat Ti, Chau Phat Tuan, Chau Phat Hung - the nephew of defendant Chau Phat Lai Em - the junior of Nam "Cam" (sentenced to death by the People's Court of Ho Chi Minh City for murder in 2003).

However, due to conflicts, Nguyen Van Tuan split off to work on his own. Under the guise of running a coffee shop, Nguyen Van Tuan led and operated a gang that extorted property from street vendors outside Binh Dien market.

Tuan directed Nguyen Van Thuong (born in 1995) and Nguyen Tran Hao Nam (born in 2004, biological son of Nguyen Van Tuan, both residing in Ward 7, District 8).

Investigating the case, Ho Chi Minh City Police directed professional units to apply synchronous measures, actively collect and consolidate documents, and destroy and handle Nguyen Van Tuan and the entire gang.

Authorities arrested Nguyen Van Tuan while he was hiding in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province and transferred him to the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department for investigation.

To date, Ho Chi Minh City Police have prosecuted 3 cases, 8 defendants, including: Nguyen Van Tuan, Nguyen Hoang Dat, Nguyen Hoang Phuc, Le Minh Do, Nguyen Van Thuong, Nguyen Tran Hao Nam, Vuong Ngoc Han, Dang Thi Kieu for the crimes of Violating regulations on the protection of endangered, precious and rare animals; Disturbing public order and Extortion.

Previously, on April 30, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department initiated a case, prosecuted the accused and issued an order to detain Chau Phat Ti (40 years old), Chau Phat Tuan (35 years old) and Chau Phat Hung (32 years old) for the crime of Extortion.

Through the work of grasping the situation and launching a mass movement to protect national security, on April 17, Ho Chi Minh City Police mobilized hundreds of officers and soldiers from professional departments and District 8 Police to catch red-handed the subjects in the criminal gang led by Chau Phat Ti, while carrying out the act of extorting property worth 900 million VND from some small traders at Binh Dien market.

During the investigation and expansion of the case, the authorities arrested the masterminds and the entire criminal gang, initially proving that the amount of money the subjects extorted from small traders and businesses providing goods transportation services in Binh Dien market was more than 2.8 billion VND.

According to Ho Chi Minh City Police, the process of fighting and destroying the two gangs led by Chau Phat Ti and Nguyen Van Tuan encountered many difficulties.

The masterminds and leaders are all notorious gangsters with many criminal records and experience in dealing with the authorities; they recruited many young men to protect and extort property from small traders and goods transport units in the Binh Dien wholesale market area.

Although very upset, to "keep their business" safe, the traders had to accept paying the above amount of money to these people without daring to report it to the police.

However, the Director of Ho Chi Minh City Police Department directed and successfully destroyed these two gangs.
