Tay Khanh Son Commune Police are tirelessly supporting people

In the last days of November 2025, when storm No. 15 continued to threaten many localities inside and outside the province, in the mountainous commune of Tay Khanh Son, there were still isolated villages. Here, the image of People's Public Security soldiers braving the rain, carrying people across fierce streams, carrying relief goods on their shoulders... has become a beautiful symbol of the spirit of "forgetting oneself for the country, serving the people".

Meeting Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thanh Dong - Chief of Tay Khanh Son Commune Police one afternoon, his eyes were still red from lack of sleep. He said: "Since the big flood, we have not had a single day off." The prolonged rain and flood from November 16 to 21 has completely cut off the commune's four highland villages, Ta Giang 1, Ta Giang 2, A Pa 1, A Pa 2. The roads are no longer roads, only mottled red dirt, large rocks weighing tons rolling between the jagged mountains. At one point, the entire hill collapsed, burying the only road. Electricity was out, phone signals were down, and there was almost no clean water. Officers and soldiers had to borrow tractors from the locals to cross streams and forests to reach the people.

The peak was on November 21, 22 and 23, when dozens of households in the highlands ran out of food. Faced with the "critical" situation, the commune police force and the security force immediately deployed the "backpacking" plan. Each person had a backpack weighing 20 to 30 kg including: rice, instant noodles, milk, salt, flashlights, medicine... They walked in heavy rain, freezing cold, the stream water was up to their waists in some places, and in some places they had to hold on to ropes to get across. Their sandals were torn, and everyone's feet were blistered and swollen. Senior Lieutenant Nguyen Phuc Thinh (Tay Khanh Son Commune Police) smiled and said: "Only after finishing helping people did I see my feet were swollen, but seeing people receive necessities made me feel less tired right away."

Among countless touching stories, perhaps the case of Cao Minh Huy (8 years old, A Pa 2 village) makes anyone who hears it choke up. On the morning of November 21, Huy was playing in the family kitchen when he accidentally spilled a pan of boiling oil, severely burning his right hand. The roads were cut off, no ambulance could enter. As soon as they received the news, First Lieutenant Nguyen Phuc Thinh and First Lieutenant Tran Nhat Lam immediately set off. The two men crossed mountain passes, one side was a high mountain, the other side was a deep abyss; in some sections, rocks rolled loudly behind them. Upon arriving, they saw Huy's hand was blistered and bleeding. They gave first aid on the spot and then took turns carrying him over more than 10km of mountain passes and through the forest to Khanh Son Regional Medical Center. "There were sections of road with heavy landslides, rocks and soil still falling. After carrying him for a while, they switched shoulders. Everyone was exhausted but no one wanted to let go," First Lieutenant Thinh recalled. When Huy was promptly admitted by the doctor, his hand was saved. On the same day, another working group led by Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thanh Dong brought 5 people from Ta Giang 2 village who were injured due to a collapsed house to the emergency room. "The terrain was too dangerous, motorbikes could not enter, we had to carry each person on our backs, at some points we had to ask the locals to mobilize an excavator, stand on a bucket to cross the deep, fast-flowing stream" - Chief of Commune Police Nguyen Thanh Dong said.

Not only did they save people, they also evacuated people from dangerous areas day and night. In the case of Mrs. Cao Thi Can (93 years old, Ko Roa village), who was paralyzed in both legs, her house was located halfway up the mountain. When the rain was heavy and the flood came, the house was at risk of completely collapsing. Despite the pouring rain, the commune police officers took turns carrying her on their backs, crossing nearly 5km of slippery forest roads to bring her to the community house for safe shelter. Until November 28, when we arrived at Tay Khanh Son commune, they were still diligently cleaning up mud in deeply flooded houses, helping people rebuild their houses; at the same time, together with the local government, they transported relief goods from the lowlands to each household.

In the bitter cold of Tay Khanh Son mountains and forests, the image of Tay Khanh Son Commune Police officers and soldiers with wet shirts, bare feet wading through mud but still smiling brightly on their sweaty faces has warmed the hearts of many people. The flood has passed, but the story of those officers and soldiers will continue to be told by the Raglai people here. It is a story of bravery, of patriotism and above all, the tireless spirit of "serving the Fatherland, serving the People" of the Vietnam People's Police.
