Samsung family sells shares worth $1.2 billion

Samsung Electronics Chairman Jay Y. Lee's mother and two sisters are expected to sell about 17.7 million shares, or 0.3% of their stake, in the South Korean tech giant.

The purpose of the share sale is to pay taxes and repay loans, a common financial move among families that own large conglomerates, according to a filing with the Korea Stock Exchange.

The deal will be carried out through a trust contract with Shinhan Bank and is expected to be completed in April next year.

The share sale comes as Samsung Electronics' shares are rising sharply, creating favorable conditions for the Lee family to optimize asset value.

AWS crashes, many popular services paralyzed

On the morning of October 20, Amazon Web Services (AWS) suffered a serious problem that disrupted a series of online services. Popular applications such as Venmo, Snapchat, Canva, Fortnite and virtual assistant Alexa were all affected.

The issue began around 3:11 a.m. ET when AWS reported a DNS error in its DynamoDB service, a critical database for many AWS customers. By 5:24 a.m., Amazon said it had fixed the DNS issue, but it was still having trouble launching new EC2 servers.

Not only Amazon services, many other major companies such as Disney+, Reddit, Lyft, Apple Music, Pinterest, Roblox and even The New York Times were also affected. Users reported access errors and slow speeds on many platforms.

Amazon has been updating its service status page on a rolling basis. By the afternoon, many services were back up and running, but there were still some issues with EC2 and other backend services. AWS has also implemented a rate limit on new server spin-ups to help with recovery.

The incident highlights the risks of having so many internet services dependent on a small number of cloud infrastructure providers. AWS accounts for about 30% of the global cloud infrastructure market, and when a region like US-EAST-1 experiences an outage, the impact can ripple around the world .

At the Data Centre World Asia 2025 event in Singapore, SLiquid introduced the CDU-22400W cooling distribution unit, which is specifically designed for tropical climate conditions and high AI chip density.

According to Moody's Ratings , data center capacity in the Asia- Pacific region will double by 2030, with total investment expected to be between $800 billion and $900 billion. SLiquid hopes to leverage China's thriving liquid cooling supply chain to serve the global market.

Each new CDU can support up to 16 high-power (120 kW) AI cabinets, reducing power consumption by at least 20% by narrowing the temperature difference between cooling circuits to less than 3°C.

According to Mordor Intelligence , the global data center liquid cooling market will reach $5.52 billion by 2025 and grow to $15.75 billion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 23.31%.
