Agricultural "capital" and strategic advantage

On August 18, in Pleiku ward, the People's Committee of Gia Lai province coordinated with central agencies and Guangxi province (China) to organize the Conference on Export Promotion to the China - Gia Lai market 2025. The conference was attended by more than 150 domestic enterprises, corporations, cooperatives and 30 Guangxi import-export enterprises, affirming the determination to bring Vietnamese agricultural products to major markets through official channels.

Ông Nguyễn Tuấn Thanh – Phó Chủ tịch UBND tỉnh Gia Lai, phát biểu khai mạc.

Mr. Nguyen Tuan Thanh - Vice Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, delivered the opening speech.

In his opening speech, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Thanh - Standing Vice Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee emphasized: this is an opportunity for businesses of the two countries to access information, seek cooperation opportunities, and at the same time remove trade barriers and expand the flow of bilateral goods. "Gia Lai wishes to become an ideal destination for investors. The success of businesses is the success of the province," said Mr. Thanh.

With the second largest natural area in the country, Gia Lai is considered the "agricultural capital" with 753,000 hectares of red basalt land suitable for industrial crops and key fruit trees: coffee, pepper, rubber, durian, passion fruit...

Along with that, infrastructure advantages are increasingly being promoted: Quy Nhon seaport - an important gateway to the world; Le Thanh international border gate directly connecting to Cambodia; two airports (Phu Cat and Pleiku) along with a synchronous network of highways and national roads. This is the key foundation for Gia Lai to build a closed production - processing - consumption chain, reduce logistics costs and increase competitiveness.

Not only stopping at agriculture, Gia Lai also strongly develops renewable energy such as wind power, solar power, and hydropower. These are fields that can support the processing industry, forming a green and sustainable value chain.

The conference attracted hundreds of Gia Lai and Chinese businesses.

At the conference, experts commented that Gia Lai possesses “three golden advantages”: land resources – logistics infrastructure – clean energy, attractive enough to become the leading agricultural and forestry production and processing center for export in the Central Highlands.

In the context of China being the world's largest agricultural import market, taking advantage of these advantages will help Gia Lai not only expand output but also enhance the position of Vietnamese agricultural products in the global value chain.

Technology is the golden key to sustainable exports

Also at the conference, experts and businesses said that if land and infrastructure advantages create the foundation, technology is the golden key for Gia Lai to enter the official export playground.

Bà Nguyễn Thị Diễm Hằng – Tổng Giám đốc Vinanutrifood Bình Định, chia sẻ tại hội nghị.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Diem Hang - General Director of Vinanutrifood Binh Dinh, shared at the conference.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Diem Hang – General Director of Vinanutrifood Binh Dinh, said that the company has invested heavily in AI, Big Data and IoT to manage raw material areas. These applications help monitor pests, forecast output, optimize harvest time and especially trace the origin transparently. This is a vital factor when exporting officially to China.

According to Ms. Hang, Vinanutrifood is in the process of building an agricultural and forestry processing factory in Gia Lai, with a capacity to meet up to 90% of official export output, aiming to become the "processing factory" of the entire Central Highlands.

“We aim to turn technology and innovation into the ‘golden key’ to open the door to the global market for Vietnamese agricultural products. Gia Lai will be an important starting point in that journey,” said the General Director of Vinanutrifood Binh Dinh.

From a technological perspective, Mr. Chu Hau Nham - Chief Engineer of the Guangxi Big Data Development Bureau, said that AI is fundamentally changing the global agricultural industry. Drones, soil sensors, blockchain, etc. will help Vietnamese farmers and businesses shift from experience-based production to data-based production. For example, in Guangxi, an AI application has helped farmers diagnose pests in just 3 seconds using images taken from their phones, saving costs and reducing production risks.

In addition to agricultural products, Guangxi Liu Yao Group expressed its desire to cooperate in developing medicinal herbs with Gia Lai, aiming to build a modern medicinal herb center, connecting cultivation - processing - trade - research. Meanwhile, China - ASEAN Information Port Joint Stock Company (Dong Xin) brings a digital agricultural model of the whole chain, from smart management of each plot of land, traceability using blockchain - BeiDou, to training human resources for digital agriculture.

At the conference, businesses from the two countries signed seven memorandums of understanding on cooperation, opening up opportunities to realize the goal of bringing agricultural products and processed products of Gia Lai province to deeply penetrate the Chinese market.

Accordingly, Lusemei Dong Hung Company Limited (Guangxi, China) signed a cooperation agreement with Thagrico Cao Nguyen Fruit Tree Company Limited (purchasing durian products); Nafoods Tay Nguyen Joint Stock Company (purchasing passion fruit products); Tin Thanh Dat Joint Stock Company (purchasing coffee products); Gia Lai Livestock Joint Stock Company (purchasing banana products).
