Strengthening the traditional friendship between Vietnam and South Africa

According to the VNA correspondent in Pretoria, continuing the 2024 foreign affairs program in Africa, from September 27 to October 2, 2024, a high-ranking delegation of the Communist Party of Vietnam led by Mr. Phan Dinh Trac, Politburo member, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Internal Affairs Commission, Deputy Head of the Central Steering Committee on Anti-Corruption and Negative Practices, and Deputy Head of the Central Steering Committee for Judicial Reform, visited and worked in the Republic of South Africa.

The delegation had meetings and talks with leaders of political parties and the South African State, including the President of South Africa, Chairman of the ruling African National Congress (ANC) Cyril Ramaphosa, Speaker of the South African Parliament Thokozile Didiza and General Secretary of the South African Communist Party Solly Mapaila.

At the meetings and talks with South African leaders, Mr. Phan Dinh Trac respectfully conveyed the warm regards of the leaders of our Party and State to the leaders of South African political parties and the State; and conveyed the congratulations of General Secretary and President To Lam to ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa on the occasion of his re-election as President of South Africa.

He believes that with its long tradition and the broad support of the South African people, under the wise leadership of President Ramaphosa, the ANC will continue to lead the South African Government and people to achieve many new victories, build a peaceful, stable and developed country, and increasingly enhance its important role and position in the region and the world.

Expressing his wish to continue to consolidate, promote and deepen the relationship between the two Parties and the two countries of Vietnam and South Africa in the coming time, Mr. Phan Dinh Trac suggested that the two sides increase the exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high-level delegations; promote the exchange of information, leadership experience, party building, cadres, and socio-economic development; encourage solidarity and friendship between political and social organizations of the two countries; sign a cooperation agreement between the two ruling parties; strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas where both sides have strengths and needs such as agriculture, minerals, textiles, and pharmaceuticals.

Mr. Phan Dinh Trac suggested that the two sides continue to support each other at multilateral forums and international organizations; South Africa supports Vietnam in promoting cooperation with the African Union (AU) and organizations of which South Africa is a member such as the Southern African Customs Union; promote negotiations to sign legal documents to create a framework for bilateral cooperation in the fields of investment, tariffs, crime prevention, and judicial assistance.

On this occasion, Mr. Phan Dinh Trac respectfully conveyed the invitation to visit Vietnam from the leaders of the Party and State of Vietnam to the leaders of the Party and State of South Africa.

At the meeting with ANC President and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, comrade Phan Dinh Trac affirmed that the Party and State of Vietnam always attach importance to and pay attention to promoting friendly relations and multi-faceted cooperation with traditional friendly countries in the African region, in which the ANC Party and the brotherly country of South Africa are among the top priorities.

ANC Chairman, South African President Ramaphosa, expressed his admiration for the achievements of the Doi Moi process, economic development, and improvement of people's lives that Vietnam has achieved under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and wished to learn from Vietnam's experience.

President Ramaphosa said that the Government of National Unity (GNU), comprising 10 political parties in South Africa, has been operating effectively for more than 3 months, receiving widespread approval and support from the South African people and the international community.

At the meeting with South African Parliament Speaker Thokozile Didiza, the two sides agreed to increase delegation exchanges, operational experience, and law-making between the two parliaments; continue to closely coordinate and support each other at regional and international inter-parliamentary mechanisms.

During the visit and work in South Africa, the Delegation also had a working session with ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula and held talks with ANC First Deputy Secretary General Nomvula Mokonyane.

The two sides exchanged and shared achievements as well as difficulties and challenges for the two Parties and two countries in the process of economic development, national construction, party building, cadre building, economic development along with ensuring social justice.

The ANC Party leader said he will soon send a delegation to visit Vietnam to learn from our Party's experiences, especially in Party building and socio-economic development.

At the meeting with General Secretary of the South African Communist Party (SACP) Solly Mapaila, comrade Phan Dinh Trac affirmed that the Communist Party of Vietnam always attaches importance to and wishes to strengthen the fraternal relationship with the SACP, and appreciates the SACP's support in promoting relations between the two states and peoples.

The SACP General Secretary agreed with the delegation's cooperation proposals, emphasizing the need for cooperation in political and ideological education for cadres and party members; and hoped to promote bilateral relations, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people relations through the two parties' relations.

During their visit to South Africa, the delegation visited and worked with officials and staff of the Vietnamese Embassy and met with the Vietnamese community in South Africa.

Mr. Phan Dinh Trac emphasized the honor and responsibility of the Embassy's staff to represent the Party, State and people of Vietnam in the locality; wished that the Embassy's staff would inherit and promote the good values ​​of Vietnamese diplomacy, unite and strive to successfully complete assigned political tasks; wished the Vietnamese community living and working in South Africa to continue to stabilize their lives, integrate, comply with the law, respect the customs and practices of the host country, contributing to further tightening the solidarity, friendship and cooperation between the two countries./.
