In the flow of human civilization, the history of nations is always in constant motion and change, along with economic, cultural, political and social imprints, forming the identity and unique characteristics of each nation. Especially, in the two transitional decades of the late 20th century and early 21st century, the world economic and political situation has many profound fluctuations.

Pursuing a foreign policy of peace and friendship, Vietnam has gradually established diplomatic relations with other countries, participated in many international organizations, increasingly enhanced the country's position, and contributed to building peace, stability and development in the world.

The book shares vivid stories about diplomacy.

The book “ The World Seen Sideways… Diplomatic Relations Tell Stories” is nearly 250 pages long, in which author Vu Son Thuy - ambassador, journalist, former Editor-in-Chief of The World and Vietnam Newspaper, shared and analyzed vivid stories from Europe to Asia, Oceania, America…

Each story is a new, authentic, and sharp perspective on the history of formation, movement, and transformation of nations, international organizations, or diplomatic relations and international issues from decades ago that still have contemporary value today...

Through vivid, imagery-rich language, issues are perceived and analyzed thoroughly, delving into their essence in relation, comparison with the past and future predictions. The author also sketches a picture of Vietnamese diplomacy in the Ho Chi Minh era, while at the same time conveying deep feelings in the pages of memories about some of the country's leaders.

The book consists of two parts: “The World in the Last Decade of the 20th Century”, “Telling the Story of Diplomacy in the First Decade of the 21st Century”. There are many impressive articles such as “America: Building a Bridge Across the Pacific”, “Made in Japan… Made in Vietnam”, “ASEAN – Unity in Diversity”, “From the “Miracle of the Han River” to the “Miracle of the Pacific”, “The Four-Engine Locomotive of ASEAN”, “The Age of Asia – America”, “Internet War”, “Vietnam: Innovative Diplomacy”…

The articles in the book are still relevant today, providing valuable knowledge about the history of international relations, a source of information to help readers have a more complete view of the present, and useful documents for learning and researching international relations, history and experience in foreign affairs and diplomacy.

Author Vu Son Thuy said that he has no ambition to write a book telling all the stories of diplomacy, but only selects a number of published articles, edits a few sentences, to publish into a book to commemorate his career as a journalist and to share information with readers interested in issues in international relations.
